Leeds United credited with interest in Diogo Leite as he prepares to depart Union Berlin as a free agent
Leeds United are reportedly pushing to enter the race for free agent defender Diogo Leite.
The centre-back is available to pick up on a free transfer following confirmation of his imminent Union Berlin exit.
Leite is leaving the German capital alongside fellow defender Danilho Doekhi, who has also been linked with Leeds.

Leeds United ‘pushing’ to enter Diogo Leite race
According to reporter Rudy Galetti, Leeds are actively exploring the possibility of a move for the 27-year-old.
Turkish giants Besiktas have also been credited with interest in Leite, who is a former Portugal youth international.
Posting on X, Galetti said: “Beşiktaş and Leeds are pushing hard to enter the race for Diogo Leite. Alongside the strong interest from a PIF-backed Saudi club in the mix, as revealed, both sides are actively exploring a move for the Portuguese CB as competition for his signature continues to grow.”
Diogo Leite’s career path
Leite started his career in his native Portugal with Porto, spending time on loan at Braga and Union Berlin to further his development. The latter signed him on a permanent deal in 2023, activiating a buy option in his deal.
He made 25 appearances for the club last season, taking his final appearance tally for the Bundesliga club to 136. Bidding farewell via Instagram, Leite said: “Today I say goodbye to a club that has marked me deeply.
“Union Berlin was not just the place where I played football. It was the place where I grew, where I fought and where I experienced some of the most important moments of my career.
“Wearing this shirt meant representing far more than a team. It meant representing an identity, a city and supporters who turn every match into a memory that will stay with me forever.”
