Leeds United face a steep uphill battle to land their top summer transfer target. The Whites risk being completely priced out of a move for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, with a massive transfer auction now brewing for his signature.
The pressure is mounting at Elland Road. While the club recently tied down 33-year-old veteran Alex Cairns to a new two-year contract, the squad remains dangerously thin between the posts as pre-season begins. Both Ilan Meslier and Karl Darlow have departed as free agents. In fact, Leeds’ aggressive pursuit of a new definitive first-choice keeper is believed to be the exact reason Darlow rejected a contract extension in the first place.
To complicate matters, current senior goalkeeper Lucas Perri is heavily linked with a loan move to Italian side Torino after falling out of favor last season. If Perri leaves, Leeds will be left with a gaping hole in their roster.

Suzuki, who famously turned down Manchester United back in 2023, sits firmly at the top of Leeds’ wishlist. However, his stellar performances for Japan at the 2026 World Cup have caught the attention of Europe’s biggest spenders.

While Parma welcome their squad back for pre-season training today, Suzuki will not be among them. The goalkeeper has been granted extended time off to recover from his World Cup campaign, leaving his club future hanging in the balance.
