But Toon officials found another way, and that saw Anderson join Nottingham Forest and Minteh sign for Brighton.

Newcastle already regret the Anderson deal, while Eddie Howe says he did not want Minteh to go. Both deals were enforced, but is there an easy way that Newcastle United could bring either player back to St James’ Park?
Unless the Magpies dig out their chequebook, the answer is no.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United were unable to include buyback clauses in the deals to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.
The report adds that Newcastle were not negotiating from a position of strength at the time, which is why no such clauses were able to be included.
If Newcastle ever decide they want to bring Anderson or Minteh back, they will need to negotiate a fee.
Newcastle United still need a right winger
Both players have done well at their new clubs since leaving St James’ Park. Anderson has been particularly impressive, as Nottingham Forest enjoy a remarkable season.
However, it is Minteh who the Magpies could probably benefit from the most right now.
While Jacob Murphy is playing very well right now, Newcastle are still in the market for a right winger.
That was the priority in January, but it currently feels as if reinforcements are unlikely.
Bryan Mbeumo is too expensive for Newcastle, while Johan Bakayoko is not leaving PSV.
The Magpies’ squad would be much stronger right now if they still had Minteh, but the only way he will return to Tyneside is if Toon officials negotiate a fee with Brighton. There is no buyback clause, as Newcastle fans wonder what might have been.
