Paul Mitchell wants to bring more young talent to Newcastle United.
The Newcastle United sporting director is keen for the club to sign more players with potential who they can help develop. Then they can be moulded into first-team stars or sold for profit to help the club’s PSR position.

It is all part of Mitchell changing Newcastle United’s transfer strategy, as he gets to grips with a second window in which he can barely spend a penny due to the Premier League’s financial rules.
The Magpies are having to change their approach, and that means signing more young players for lower fees from further afield.

Paul Mitchell is already doing that in 2025, with Vakhtang Salia joining Newcastle United.
There is a lot of excitement about Salia, but Newcastle’s youth recruitment drive will not stop there.
And that is why TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that Newcastle United have got their eye on 18-year-old French winger Tidiam Gomis.
“Newcastle have looked at Tidiam Gomis at Caen,” he said.
“Aston Villa are currently in talks with him.
“He is out of contract at the end of the season and is a player I know Paul Mitchell likes. He would be one for the future, but Newcastle do like him.
“Villa are in talks, but RB Leipzig are the favourites to sign him at the moment. I am told there are a few clubs in for him.”

Who is Tidiam Gomis?
Tidiam Gomis is an 18-year-old who currently plans for Caen in Ligue 2.
He is right-footed, but predominantly plays on the left wing. The teenager made his debut for Caen when he was 17-years-old, and is in the final few months of his contract there.
Various clubs are looking at Gomis, such as Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Marseille and Lille. He is also in talks with Aston Villa about joining Unai Emery’s side.
So far this season, Gomis has made 17 Ligue 2 appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
A move away appears to beckon in 2025, two years after he almost joined Bayer Leverkusen. Gomis had agreed to join Leverkusen in the summer of 2023, only for Caen to reject their approach.
Now they will be powerless, as Gomis’ contract winds down.
That could create an opportunity for Newcastle, who are fans of the French attacker. Paul Mitchell likes what he sees, but it remains to be seen if he will be able to bring him to St James’ Park.
However, he is very much the type of player that Mitchell wants to bring to Newcastle United as part of his new recruitment approach.
