Liverpool fans are outraged after seeing an angle of Everton’s controversial late equaliser in the Merseyside derby.
A controversial late goal from Everton captain James Tarkowski secured a 2-2 draw in the last Merseyside derby ever to be played at Goodison Park.
The goal was initially checked for offside and then afterwards for a potential foul in the build-up to the goal, but was eventually given, splitting the points between the two sides.
But following the match, Liverpool fans have taken to social media to express their anger and disbelief after seeing a new angle of the goal.
Immediately after the match, a screenshot from the VAR check emerged online that appears to show Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate being headed by Everton’s first goalscorer Beto, stopping him from potentially clearing the ball before Tarkowski smashed it in.
Reacting to the photo, one fan wrote: “Thought it was a nailed on foul on Konate tbh, was never likely to be given in the circumstances like but still.”
While another admitted: “Was a foul but never expected it to get turned over.”
And another wrote: “Look it won’t change the result but again I don’t care what any1 says it was a foul on konate simple.”
Even Manchester United fan Mark Goldbridge argued: “Obviously happy with that Everton goal but even as a United fan that’s a foul on Konate. You can’t just shove someone out the way of the ball like that.”
Everton captain James Tarkowski’s 98th minute goal against Liverpool led to the game finishing 2-2.
Shortly after the dramatic late goal, Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure ran over to the away fans to taunt them about their side throwing away the win.
This prompted Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, who has supported the Reds since he was a child, to get into a heated argument with his rival, causing both men to be shown a second yellow card, meaning they will miss their next matches.
In the post-match chaos, Liverpool boss Slot and assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff were also shown red cards for their reaction to the drama, meaning they will not be in the dugout for Sunday’s home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
