“He’s Exactly What United Need” – Parker Expresses Frustration After Club Allowed £45M Winger To Join Rivals
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has questioned why the Red Devils didn’t try harder to secure the services of Mathys Tel during the January transfer window.
The Red Devils, Chelsea and Arsenal were all linked with signing the Frenchman on loan until the end of the season, but he ended up making the switch to Tottenham instead. Speaking to Instant Casino, Parker said the player would have been a perfect addition to improve Ruben Amorim’s options up front:
“I was very disappointed with United’s business in January. I was expecting at least two players through the door and I thought it was going to be the club’s saving grace this season, to be honest! The squad needed some players with energy and pace so Ruben Amorim could at least match most teams in the Premier League, but he only got Patrick Dorgu in the end.”
“Even Tottenham have gone and brought in another attacking player in Mathys Tel, who looked like one of their best players against Aston Villa on Sunday. He had some good movement, brought some energy and scored a good goal – he’s exactly what United need in their attacking positions at the moment.”
Bayern Munich until the end of the season, Spurs do have the option to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer for £45m.
It means that United will have to look elsewhere to strengthen their attack when the transfer window reopens.
Who could United sign instead?
Some have tipped the Red Devils to make a move for Tel’s former Bayern teammate Harry Kane. The England captain reportedly has a release clause which means he can be signed for £54m.
Other forwards who have been linked in recent weeks include the likes of RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Wolves’ Matheus Cunha.
