Everton have been warned to go nowhere near Dan Ashworth after a recent hire update.
David Moyes has improved things on the pitch at Goodison Park and it looks as though The Friedkin Group are keen to do the same off the field.
Big changes are expected in the boardroom ahead of next season, with Angus Kinnear in line to be appointed Everton CEO.
Meanwhile, Kevin Thelwell is set to leave Everton at the end of the season, with a potential restructuring in the recruitment department on the cards.
However, if Ashworth is part of that recruitment structure, one former Everton employee won’t be pleased.
The Friedkin Group consider Ashworth hire at Everton
According to Graeme Bailey [via Everton News, 28 February], Ashworth is a “genuine” contender to take over from Thelwell at Goodison Park.
However, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t have a good word to say about Ashworth potentially joining Everton.
“That is an absolute joke,” King said.
“I wouldn’t want him anywhere near the football club, thank you very much. Just look at his record, what even is his record? Promotion, relegation, a bunch of bad buys at West Bromwich Albion. As a result, I would have no faith in him.

“He must have a good agent putting his name forward. I wouldn’t want him at my football club. Why can’t they convince David Weir to join the club? And Ashworth is the next best option, do me a favour. If anybody has any sense here, they won’t go near him, look what happened at Manchester United.”
The Friedkin Group need to take time with next Everton hire
It looks as though it is set to be a summer of change on Merseyside.
With the move to Bramley-Moore Dock to come, and The Friedkin Group looking to lead Everton into a new era with Moyes at the helm, this could be the biggest summer in the Toffees’ history.
As a result, the club’s owners shouldn’t rush into any behind the scenes hires, and must ensure they take their time and appoint the right people for the right roles.
