However, Pep Guardiola’s side are now awaiting their own verdict on the 130 charges, which has seen Everton’s name brought up again.
Everton dragged into Manchester City’s Premier League battle
As a result of their punishment, Everton lost out on £8.4m due to points deductions last season after finishing three places lower in the table.
The Toffees are not looking ahead to the summer after playing the January transfer market extemely cautiously.
But according to iNews, Everton now find themselves being dragged up in City’s ongoing battle with the Premier League.
Guardiola’s side are now expected to receive their verdict on the 130 charges against them.
The Premier League champions are prepared for ‘carnage’ to unfold and it could open up another storm lasting years.
If City are found guilty of their charges, it is believed the three former judges presiding over the case will follow the points deductions slapped on Everton and Nottingham Forest.
That could translate into a massive points deduction for City.
Brighter times are ahead for Everton who are set for a big PSR boost in the summer when they move into Bramley-Moore Dock.
Although still significantly behind the likes of City, it is progression on Merseyside like the stadium move which will push the club in the right direction financially.
Everton could vote to expel Man City from the Premier League
Frustratingly for Everton, PSR has been extended for another season by the Premier League which will throw in an £89m curveball for the Toffees.
The consequences of Manchester City being found guilty of these charges are absolutely enormous.
However, to see them thrown out of the Premier League, it would take for 15 of the clubs to vote in favour of their expulsion.
And that would certainly create a whole new storm of its own.
“Rule B6 of the Premier League’s Handbook stipulates that, in order to trigger the expulsion of one of its members, clubs would have to vote as part of a Special Resolution,” said the head of football governance at Lane, Clark & Peacock Aaryaman Banerji, to iNews.
“This would require 15 clubs to vote in favour of expulsion. It will be instructive to see whether the Independent Commission is held to this requirement, or whether this might be worked around, so that the Commission can itself impose such a sanction.”
