Newcastle United finally ended their long trophy drought on Sunday with an excellent 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
Dan Burn and Alexander Isak were the star performers for the Magpies as the duo delivered goals in either half to put them in a commanding position.
Federico Chiesa pulled one back for the Reds in stoppage-time, but Newcastle held on to win their first major trophy since the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
The club chairman and the governor of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund was in attendance at Wembley and was spotted with the Carabao Cup after the match.
According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Al-Rumayyan is a huge admirer of Isak and has told the club’s hierarchy to resist any offers for him this summer.
This will be music to the ears of Newcastle supporters who don’t want to see their best player leave amid interest from some of the top European clubs.
Isak has been absolutely impressive for the club this season. The Sweden international scored in the final to end their trophy drought, while he has bagged 19 goals in 25 appearances in the Premier League.
Arsenal are eyeing a summer move for the 25-year-old, while Liverpool have also been credited with an interest.
But it looks Isak will not be going anywhere as Al-Rumayyan is adamant to keep him at St James’ Park.
