During a Q&A session on X with West Brom, Johnston was asked to name the most talented player he has played with. Without hesitation, he named Moussa Dembélé, the former Celtic striker who lit up the Scottish Premiership and the Champions League.

Johnston, who left Celtic for West Brom in the summer after a successful loan spell, came through the academy ranks at the Hoops and played alongside Dembélé during his early years in the first team.
It’s no shock for Celtic fans to see Dembélé getting this kind of recognition. The French forward scored 51 goals in 94 appearances for the Hoops between 2016 and 2018 before moving on to Lyon, then Atletico Madrid, and more recently Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. His time at Celtic included a hattrick in his Glasgow Derby debut and a string of standout performances in Europe.
Johnston himself has impressed at West Brom, doing well in the Championship after making his move permanent. After struggling with injuries and a lack of regular minutes at Celtic, the switch to England has given him a new lease of life, and he’s quickly become a key player for the Baggies. His performances have even led to regular Ireland call-ups, showing that he’s finally fulfilling the potential Celtic fans always knew he had.

Despite moving on, it’s clear Johnston still holds Celtic close to his heart, and his admiration for Dembélé is a reminder of the talent the Hoops has developed over the years. With Dembélé continuing his career abroad and Johnston moving down south, it’s great to see former Hoops pair maintaining their strong friendship.
Celtic fans will always keep an eye on Johnston’s progress, but it’s safe to say he’ll never forget his time at Celtic Park and the influence of players like Dembélé along the way.
