Michael Stewart has questioned whether Greg Taylor would actually be interested in a move to Rangers, with his current Celtic deal set to expire in the summer.
With Taylor yet to sign a new Celtic deal and Kieran Tierney already having agreed a four-year pre-contract, it appears that Taylor’s days at Celtic are numbered, especially with Jeffrey Schlupp seemingly taking him out of the starting XI.
However, as Sunday’s defeat against St Johnstone showed, Schlupp is far from perfect, and with Taylor coming on at halftime, he may just yet save his Hoops career.
With Stewart quick to point out how unlikely it is that Taylor will end up at Ibrox, particularly considering the fact that Rangers have yet to appoint a full-time coach for next season.
Stewart said: (Premier Sports Scottish Football Social Club), “I actually floated this idea two or three weeks ago.
“From a Rangers perspective, yeah I would.
“I don’t know what Greg Taylor will be thinking, but from Rangers perspective, it’s a free transfer and he is in the Scotland squad, so it’s another Scottish player which is a huge asset.
“I don’t know whether Greg Taylor would be interested, but he’s a quality player.
“But for me he’s better than Jefte and he’s better than Ridvan Yilmaz.”
Taylor is as divisive a Celtic player as you’ll likely find in recent years. For some, he has contributed unbelievably for a signing who, at the time, was seen as an underwhelming replacement for Kieran Tierney. For others, he is seen as a weakness in the team, consistently caught out in Europe.
However, considering that Tierney will most likely not play every game next season and will need rest due to consistent injury problems, having Taylor and Tierney competing for a starting spot would be a huge boost for next season.
