David Moyes will now be shifting his focus on to the summer transfer window following the latest victory on the weekend.
Three points against Nottingham Forest has taken Everton 17 points clear of the bottom three with seven games remaining.
Everton have already identified four key areas to address in the summer transfer window.
But there are also numerous contract decisions that need to be made before the end of the season on Merseyside.
And there is one player who has now thrown his hat in the ring to land himself an extended stay on Merseyside.
Joao Virginia wants to stay at Everton
In weeks gone by, Joao Virginia previously said he’d leave Everton due to a lack of opportunities being presented to him.
Virginia is yet to even feature under Moyes due to their elimination from the domestic cups, but he could remain on Merseyside ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking to RG Media, Virginia has now admitted he would actually like to stay with Everton with the move to Bramley-Moore Dock exciting him.
“I love Everton, I love everything about it, and feel very comfortable here. Everton has the option to renew, it’s in their hands, and I’m waiting for them to do it,” he said.
“Obviously, I want to play and that weighs a lot, so I don’t know what’s going to happen in the summer until that contract is renewed. That’s the situation I’m in at the moment. It’s hard to say because I really love being here and having to wait for them to make a decision is really hard.”
“Obviously, I would want to play more. Even staying would be a great option, because Everton is going to a new stadium, and next year will be an exciting season. Everton will need to have a discussion with me to see what the project is for me in order to keep developing as a goalkeeper.”
Virginia said Everton did withdraw their contract offer, but Moyes has remained adamant no new deals would be offered until the club are safe from the drop.

With Everton able to secure mathematical safety this weekend, an interesting few weeks could be ahead on the contract front.

He was Everton’s hero on the weekend and Abdoulaye Doucoure took his chance to stake his claim for a new deal on Merseyside.
After the game at the City Ground, Doucoure said he wanted a new Everton deal as he proclaimed his love for the club.
The Toffees are yet to hand out any new contracts to any of their players just yet.
But it is becoming apparent there are players becoming slightly anxious with their futures coming under real scrutiny, with just weeks left in the season.
Doucoure celebrated his goal with a contract message to the away fans as it became abundantly clear where he would like his future to be.
Everton hold the cards when it comes to the ongoing contract situations, but there are numerous players wanting to stay.
