The Leicester City striker released a statement on Monday (April 21) after the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship was confirmed.
Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has reportedly already made his feelings clear on his next club.
Vardy, 38, was part of the Leicester City side that saw their relegation to the Championship confirmed with a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool at the King Power on Sunday (April 20).
And despite seemingly being in the twilight years of his career, the former England international has still been the Foxes’ main goal threat with seven strikes in the Premier League this term.
On Monday (April 21), he released a statement stating how he was “sorry” for the side’s performances this season.
“At this point I don’t even know what to say,” Vardy wrote.
“No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses.
“Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.
“Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes – and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment.
“It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.”
The 38-year-old concluded: “To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a sh*t show.”

And Vardy’s future is still unclear, as his current Leicester contract is set to expire in June with several clubs – including Wrexham – linked with a potential move for the 38-year-old.
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has suggested that several options will likely be available to the veteran, including opportunities in the MLS as well as remaining at Leicester as they aim to return to the Premier League.

As reported by The Sun, Vardy could leave the East Midlands club but not for another team in England or Wales.

The outlet claims that he is only interested in a move abroad, with several American clubs reportedly interested. And Vardy is no stranger to football in the U.S., as he became a minority shareholder of New York-based side Rochester Rhinos back in 2021. However, the club ceased operations in 2023.

Vardy’s contract at relegation-threatened Leicester expires at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Wrexham have made their feelings on completing a sensational move to sign Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy if they get promoted to the Championship.
Vardy’s contract with the Foxes expires this summer, with the club now almost certain to be relegated to the Championship at the first time of asking.
According to Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett, the 38-year-old has no plans to retire from football yet and still harbours hopes of playing in the Premier League, though hasn’t ruled out extending his 13-year stay at the King Power Stadium.
He has scored seven goals for the Foxes this season, though has started every game in Leicester’s barren run of over 14 hours without a Premier League goal.
Speaking on talkSPORT after Leicester’s latest defeat – a 3-0 home loss to Newcastle on Monday – former Watford star Troy Deeney tipped Vardy to sign for either Everton or West Ham this summer.
The 38-year-old’s age would potentially tempt Everton to look elsewhere as the Toffees prepare for their first transfer window under the ownership of the Friedkin Group, while that could also be a limitation for a West Ham deal.
But the 2016 Premier League winner’s high profile could make him a perfect acquisition for Wrexham, should the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney majority-owned club earn promotion from League One.
The Red Dragons are currently occupying the second and final automatic promotion spot in the third tier, three points ahead of nearest rivals Wycombe.
Phil Parkinson’s side had a brief blip, in terms of results, around the turn of the year, but have won six of their last eight matches.
Three of their final five opponents – Charlton, Blackpool and Lincoln – are all in the top half, however, so there is still work to do yet.
However, Wrexham have already made it clear as to whether they would want to sign Vardy should the opportunity arise.
Speaking to SPORTbible last May, the club’s former chief executive Humphrey Ker explained: “There’s nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn’t be a great Wrexham player.
“It’s not a name I’ve had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn’t put us off.”
Joining Wrexham would also give Vardy and his wife, Rebekah, the opportunity to feature in the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ series on Disney+, which has opened the club up to new audiences in North America.
As per the club’s most recent accounts, 52.1 per cent of non-matchday revenue for the club was generated from the Rest of the World, primarily North America.
Brand expert Emily Austen told the Daily Mail last year: “Rebekah particularly has had a significant amount of negativity on social media; featuring on the show as a consequence of the signing would likely enable a more empathic response from fans, and connect them with a more sympathetic narrative.
“It’s not out of the question that there might be spin off shows with the WAGs, and regular air time on prime time television is hard to come by.
“It would secure visibility for the couple that they are unlikely to achieve themselves.”

Gary Neville has given his thoughts on the next steps of Jamie Vardy’s career following Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship.
Vardy, 38, could not make a positive impact during yesterday’s 1-0 defeat against Liverpool, which saw the Foxes officially relegated to the Championship after just one season back in the Premier League.
The 38-year-old striker, who played an integral part in the East Midlands club winning the 2015/16 title, is inevitably nearing the end of his career, but has still been the side’s main goal threat with seven strikes in 31 league appearances this term.
In recent weeks, he has been linked with a move to League 1 outfit Wrexham, with The Wrexham Insider reporting that Vardy could be one of several soon-to-be free agents attracting the interest of the Welsh side.
Leicester head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy gave his thoughts on Vardy’s situation on Sunday.
“Every player’s situation is being looked at – and that’s important,” Van Nistelrooy said via the Mirror.
“With Jamie, it’s an ongoing thing between him and the club. So far, he’s kept his own counsel.”
He added: “He’s a great captain. He’s been through thick and thin with this club. Winning the league, FA Cup, Charity Shield, promotion and relegation. He’s been doing everything he can to help the club and be loyal to this club.
“Just seeing him, he’s an example to everyone in the building and an inspiration of consistency, of mentality, of never giving up.”

And after yesterday’s result, former Manchester United captain Neville issued a theory about the ex-England striker’s future plans.
When asked by Peter Drury on ‘The Gary Neville Podcast’ what he would suggest if he was “hypothetically advising Jamie Vardy,” Neville said: “Look, if his body feels right [he should continue]… it’ll come down to how he feels. These lads are so fit, they look so fit.
“He’s obviously lost a yard [of pace], but I think there are opportunities now that exist in America or in other parts of the world where you can go and play, you can enjoy yourself.”
He added: “I think [he should] stay at Leicester… why not? Do they not need a Jamie Vardy in the Championship? They’re going to have a lot more of the ball, they’re going to dominate the games. He knows how to work in the box in short spaces – he’s got better at that.
“There may be a position for him for 25-30 games next season… he still could be someone [who is] important for them.”

A day removed from their relegation, the veteran forward has taken to social media to apologise to Leicester fans in a strongly-worded statement on social media.

Vardy described this season as a ‘total embarrassment’ in a scathing assessment.

Ruud van Nistelrooy seeks Leicester clarity after Premier League relegation
Ruud van Nistelrooy replaced Steve Cooper last November but has failed to stop the club’s slide into the Championship.
Speaking after the match, the Dutchman, who is contracted until June 2027, wants a decision about his future resolved quickly.
“The club has to use this time, otherwise you will waste it,” he said. “In a situation like this, you have to sit very carefully with the club to discuss the matters.
“I’m focused and taking my responsibility to do the best things for things for the football club, the future and next season.
“Performances like Brighton and the Liverpool game are signs the players are willing to do that and finish the season the best way possible the new season will start and continue.
“We have to take responsibility and that’s what I’m doing for the next five weeks and after that we have to see.”

On the back of Leicester clinching their return to the Premier League, it was announced that striker Vardy had penned a new deal to extend his stay with the Foxes.
So far in the 24/25 season, the 37-year-old has made eight appearances in the Premier League, scoring three goals.
Despite being a key part of Steve Cooper’s squad at the King Power Stadium, Vardy has been heavily linked with a move away from the club.
Earlier in the month, it was reported that Vardy and his wife, Becky, took a secret flight to Bahrain as rumours over a move to Saudi Arabia refused to go away.
Now, it has been claimed that Vardy has been offered a lucrative deal to sign for either the Saudi Professional League or the Qatari Stars League.
As reported by Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Vardy will have a decision to make come the end of the season, either to retire or move to the Middle East.
It has been suggested that Vardy was previously in talks with a move to the Middle East but wanted to continue to play in the Premier League.
However, he is said to be back in talks after several teams offered exorbitant figures for his signature.
Vardy was on the scoresheet on Saturday as Leicester came from 2-0 down to beat Southampton in the Premier League.

After the match, Foxes boss Cooper said: “Of course, it’s a brilliant way to win and hopefully when we look back on the season it will become a memorable day, for the supporters first of foremost, who spend a lot of money on travel and going through everything as they do, the emotions.
“It’ll be one they won’t forget in a season we’re trying to make successful. They’ll go out of the stadium feeling good.”
He added: “We had players who came on and off at half-time and a little bit later to make a real impact in the game. We see players who haven’t even got on the pitch today celebrating like they’ve played 90 minutes. Those things are really important to me because I know how much you need them.”
Leicester will be back in Premier League action this Friday when they take on rivals Nottingham Forest.
