‘Just answer’: Robbie Savage shares what he really thinks of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and still annoys Chris Sutton

Robbie Savage has a knack for annoying Celtic hero Chris Sutton.
Both enjoy a bit of back and forth on the radio as they analyse the weekend’s football results with Sutton always talking up the Scottish game and Celtic.

When Celtic blew away St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, Sutton praised the Hoops whilst delivering a warning about Aberdeen.
When Aston Villa got knocked out of the Champions League Sutton had to warn Savage over his Celtic claim after he misquoted the Hoops legend on how he viewed the Parkhead club’s Champions League campaign.
So now, with Rodgers on the brink of another treble, Sutton asked Savage what he really thinks of the Celtic manager and his attempt at an anwer didn’t do down too well.

Savage admits Brendan Rodgers is a ‘very good’ Celtic manager but irks Sutton
As previously said, Sutton always talks up Celtic whenever he is on broadcasting duties down south and, to be fair, the Scottish game.
But for some strange reason, Savage seems reluctant to do the same and when asked if the Celtic boss gets the respect he deserves down south, Sutton’s broadcasting partner evades the question.
Sutton asked Savage on BBC 606 [5m], “Do you think, Rob, from down south, does he get the respect he deserves?”
Savage: “What do you mean?”
Sutton: “Well, does he get the respect for the job he’s done at Celtic in the Champions League this season?”
Savage: “Well, they went out. They went out to Bayern. But what round did they get to? Are you there?”
Sutton: “Yeah, I’m just, I’m not going to talk to you.”
Backtracking, Savage finally admitted, “I think he’s a very, very, very good manager. Won the FA Cup. Listen, I think he’s a fantastic manager. Me personally.”
Sutton: “Will you answer a question? Do you think, down south, he gets the respect that he deserves? Stop going off on your own tangents. Just answer that.”
Savage: “Do you know what? I wish I could answer that, but I’ve got to go back to Emily.” [who then delivered a Chelsea Women’s update].
Daft things Savage has said about Celtic that Sutton has slammed
This isn’t the first time Savage has riled Sutton with his nonsense views about Celtic.
Sutton labelled Savage ‘really stupid’ after asking if the Parkhead club would rather play in the Europa League instead of the Champions League.
Savage was also branded clueless by Sutton after he claimed Celtic celebrated losing to Bayern Munich at Parkhead earlier this season.
And finally, after Savage dismissed Postecoglou’s brand of football at Celtic, Sutton called his co-presenter ‘arrogant’.
The point is, Savage’s comments about Scottish football and Celtic in particular simply do not make and have never made sense. Thanks goodness Sutton is always at hand to keep him in check.
