Fabian Schar injury scare assessed as Newcastle United react to fresh knocks at Brighton

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says that Fabian Schar is being assessed after coming off at the end of the score draw against Brighton.

Howe withdrew the Swiss veteran and Kieran Trippier late in the game as Emil Krafth and Sven Botman came on to see out the draw. Schar hobbled off but has a full week to recover before the clash with Chelsea at St James’ Park.

Howe, speaking in his post-game press conference, told Chronicle Live: “I am not 100% sure with Fabby as he was limping. I don’t know if it is cramp or a muscle issue, I need to check. Kieran I am pretty sure was cramp.”

United edged on to 63 points with the draw against the Seagulls and now have nine more to play for. Howe felt that a point was thoroughly deserved.

He said: “It’s probably a good point for us, even though we came here to win. Our final pass and cross probably wasn’t at its finest level. We were very disappointed with how we conceded. We did enough to warrant a point, if not more. I thought we were the team trying to win the game. Brighton are a difficult team to stop. We chased the game with intelligence and ultimately got our reward.”

The head coach now switched his attention to next week’s clash against the Blues with the Everton game on the final day of the season also critical. Howe said: “It’s all to play for. We have three huge games, three very tough games in different ways. Two of them are at home and we hope that can make the difference.”
