Liverpool are unlikely to meet Newcastle United’s price tag for Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 25-year-old is the “dream” signing at Anfield, but Newcastle are determined to keep hold of their star man.

The Magpies will demand upwards of £100million for Isak, which Liverpool consider to be outside of their price range and they will consider alternative options to strengthen up front.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in February that Arne Slot sees Isak as the “perfect” signing and the interest in his signature is “very strong”.

The striker has scored 27 goals and provided six assists in 40 appearances across all competitions this season, leading Newcastle to their first major trophy in 70 years.

As a result, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 19 April that Isak is expected to stay at Newcastle as they will price him out of a move elsewhere.

While they look set to miss out on the Newcastle striker, Slot’s side have begun assessing their other options as they aim to strengthen in attack.

Football Insider revealed on 18 April that Liverpool are closely monitoring Ollie Watkins as a potential alternative to Isak ahead of the transfer window.

The England international could be available this summer amid uncertainty surrounding his future at Aston Villa, placing a number of clubs on high alert.

A new striker is the priority for Liverpool this summer amid frustrations surrounding Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz who have frequently struggled to lead the line.

As a result, Football Insider revealed that Nunez will leave Liverpool in a bid to raise funds which will then be reinvested into their squad.

Arne Slot eyes Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement

Alongside their efforts to recruit a new striker this summer, the Reds have also turned their attentions towards the addition of a new right-back.

Football Insider revealed on 5 May that Liverpool want to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold and will bring in a first-choice right-back to fill his spot.

Conor Bradley has deputised for Alexander-Arnold during injury and has handled himself impressively, but Liverpool want a new signing on the right side of Slot’s defence.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Liverpool are concerned about Bradley’s injury record and will turn their attentions to the market as a result.
