Lille have reported that their midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has been hospitalized due to an illness. Bentaleb, who previously played for Tottenham Hotspur, has participated in 34 matches for the French team this season. The specifics of his illness remain undisclosed. However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, Lille disclosed that Bentaleb fell ill on the night of Tuesday, June 18, necessitating his hospitalization at Lille University Hospital.
LOSC’s statement reads, “Nabil Bentaleb experienced a sudden illness on Tuesday evening. He was promptly taken to Lille University Hospital for medical care and hospitalization. LOSC is providing Nabil with the utmost support during this challenging time and urges everyone to respect his privacy.”
Bentaleb, who has earned 43 caps for the Algerian national team, began his football journey in Lille’s youth academy before joining Tottenham’s academy in 2012. The 29-year-old made his senior debut for Tottenham in 2013, eventually making 66 appearances for the club. He later moved to Schalke 04, where he scored 19 goals in 107 matches. Bentaleb briefly returned to the Premier League on loan with Newcastle United in 2020. In 2022, after leaving Schalke, he spent a season with Angers in Ligue 1 before transferring to Lille last summer.
