Rangers hero Ally McCoist explains why Celtic fans will NEVER be able to hijack club anthem

He had responded positively to the trolling at the time but is now keen to stress that it belongs to Gers

RANGERS have claimed Tina Turner hit ‘The Best’ as a club anthem since their dominant nine-in-a-row period in the 1990s.

But Celtic‘s recent stranglehold on Scottish football has seen them lay a claim to that title.

When the song blared out at Ibrox in the most recent meeting between the Old Firm sides, the Rangers fans were horrified as the away end began belting out the lyrics after having clinched their fourth straight title.

Gers legend Ally McCoist was pressed on his talkSPORT show over whether his old team should allow the Hoops to have it as their new anthem.

But he hit back at the time, and now has doubled down that Rangers will always maintain the hit as their own.

Playing the tune on the radio, McCoist said: “No matter how much they try to hijack it, it’ll always be our song.”

Co-host Gabby Agbonlahor didn’t seem to get who McCoist was talking about, instead asking him about his history with the song.

He said: “How does it feel Ally when this comes on, even when you work at games or when your lads go to games?”

McCoist responded: “Aw, it’s magic.

“There are one or two other clubs trying to steal it.

“Celtic actually tried to steal it, it was a poor show!”

McCoist had been more on board with the trolling when previously asked about it by broadcaster and Celts fan Shebahn Aherne.

She had said: “The players come out the tunnel, they’re walking out to ‘The Best’, and the 2,000 Celtic fans are almost singing louder than the Rangers fans.

“Because they’re not really simply the best over the last few seasons, are you Ally?”

McCoist said: “I think it’s brilliant, I think it’s hilarious.

“I don’t have a problem with it at all, I thought it was an absolutely brilliant wind up.”
