THE transfer window always brings with it plenty of speculation and rumours that you can file under ‘not going to happen.’

But one wild report out of Spain might have already have assured itself of top spot – and Rangers fans have been having plenty of fun with it.

The Light Blues’ search for a new manager appears to be edging closer to a resolution.

The Ibrox club have been without a permanent manager since February when Philippe Clement was sacked, with club legend Barry Ferguson in interim charge since the Belgian’s dismissal.

There was then a dramatic twist last night when it emerged that Davide Ancelotti was a serious contender for the vacancy.

The 35-year old son of legendary manager Carlo is currently assistant to his dad at Real Madrid.

While he’s never been a manager in his own right, Ancelotti Jr is expected to land his first gig as a boss this summer.

Ancelotti Sr’s time in charge of Real will come to an end at the conclusion of the current season and he’s off to take charge of the Brazil national team.

The potential appointment of Davide Ancelotti as the new Rangers manager has certainly caused a reaction, with fans divided.

Many appear enthused by Ancelotti’s profile and his experience working at some of the world’s biggest clubs, while others are concerned about his lack of managerial experience and knowledge of Scottish football.

But while many Gers fans might be divided on the possible appointment itself, they’re certainly united in reacting with total disbelief to a wild transfer rumour that’s kicked-off in Spain.

While there’s no suggestion Ancelotti wouldn’t want to tap into his contacts at Real, it is of course highly unlikely that he’d be able to attract any of the club’s biggest stars to Scotland.

Rangers boss Barry Ferguson reveals why he’s ‘had a few arguments’ with Ibrox ace Nicolas Raskin

Despite that, one Spanish report has suggested he wants to take TWO of them with him to Ibrox.

DefensaCentral have written a story claiming that Ancelotti ‘wants to sign two Real Madrid players for his new Rangers.’

The two players concerned?

David Alaba and Ferland Mendy.

It claims the two players are ‘two suggestions to strengthen the defence‘ – while also referring to Rangers as an ‘English club.’

Now, it certainly goes without saying that this is a link to be filed under the ‘extremely unlikely’ category.

Defenders Alaba, 32, and Mendy, 29, are two of the biggest stars in world football in their positions and would almost certainly command rather sizeable transfer fees.

That’s before you even consider the wages – Alaba curently earns more than £356,000-a week.

As you can imagine, the wild rumour has caught the attention of Rangers fans and they’ve been reacting to it in their droves.

And it’s fair to say, there’s plenty of scepticism.

One fan replied: “Aye right, Alaba and Mendy.”

Another joked: “If we sign Alaba and Mendy I will do a 10,000 metre race.”

A further comment read: “Ferland Mendy overlapping Matondo and David Alaba was not on the rumour mill bingo list.”

Another response said: “Be good to get Belllingham in as back up to Raskin.”

A Gers fan simply said: “Aye OK.”

Another responded: “And so it begins.”

Summing up the general feeling, another post said: “Good to see silly season has started.”

While another fan seemed to already have had enough, saying: “Going to be a summer of Rangers getting linked with everybody, isn’t it?”
