It seemed as though the moment was gone, and James Forrest wasn’t going to score the goal that ensured he had found the back of the net in all 16 of his league campaigns for Celtic.
But then, in the dying moments, and as St Mirren were trying to hang on for maximum points, time stopped still when Forrest picked the ball up from inside the penalty box on the right-hand side, and then history…
Forrest got his record-breaking goal, you could tell what it meant to the player when he celebrated, including his teammates, who were delighted beyond belief and the overjoyed Celtic Park faithful.

When the ball hit the back of the net, you would have been confused because everyone reacted like it was the title-winning goal, but that’s what it meant!
O’Neill touched upon that moment, including how Forrest’s introduction in the second half ‘changed the game’.
The legendary Celtic boss also stated how he hasn’t heard a ‘bigger roar’ than the one generated for Forrest’s goal, as he told Sky Sports Football(17/05/25).
“His introduction changed the course of the game,” said O’Neill. “Celtic were meandering along in the first half, then in the second half, they go a goal behind.
“Forrest’s introduction was fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. The goal that he scores. Not only is it record-breaking in many aspects.
“It was greeted as if it were the Champions League winner. It was really fantastic. The crowd. I know, because I managed this side for a number of years. I am not sure I have heard a bigger roar.”

Forrest’s Celtic career in numbers
What’s crazy is that Forrest was out of action for several months, and he hasn’t come back looking raw or off-colour, but like he has started every game this season.
The 33-year-old was Man of the Match for the win over Aberdeen last time out – where he got himself an assist – and now that goal to add to his incredible tally.
Celtic’s most decorated player of all-time, that record-breaking goal, and a possible Treble at the end of it all.
This season could yet be, and is proving to be, magical beyond words for Forrest.
