CELTIC toasted the success of their former boss Ange Postecoglou insisting ‘it was never in doubt’ the Australian was going to lead Tottenham to Europa League glory.

Spurs secured their first major trophy in 17 years and Champions League football next season after Brennan Johnson‘s first-half goal saw them beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao.

Manager Postecoglou has faced criticism before the game and took umbrage at being called a ‘clown’ by one of the reporters.

But the Aussie, who has been under pressure for a disappointing league campaign where they finished 17th, has had the last laugh after securing silverware in his second season.

Celtic put out a tweet saying: “A winner once again. Never in doubt. He never stops! Congratulations Ange.”

Questions though remain over his future and whether he will stay at the club.

After the game he said: ” “I’m still taking it all in. I know what it means to this club.

“The longer it goes on, the harder it is to break the cycle.

“You have to get the monkey off your back.

“There are probably supporters following us for the 41 years we haven’t won in Europe or 17 years at home.

“What it means to them is incredible.”

Rangers hero Ally McCoist says he’s thrilled for Postecoglou.

McCoist who was commentating on the TNT Sport coverage could not be more happier for the 59-year-old.

He said: “I’m thrilled for him, I’m absolutely delighted for him, I really am.

“He delivered second season glory like he said he would.

“A lot over the criticism has been over the top particularly in the build up to this match.

“I don’t think anyone can begrudge a man this trophy. ”

Brennan Johnson came up with the all important goal in what was a cagey affair.

Asked about Postecoglou, he said: “He’s done on his job, he said he would win in his second season and he has.
