Premier League club reportedly mocking Leeds United behind the scenes as Daniel Farke told to get real

Leeds United may have to rethink their latest plot to sign a £30million-rated player, and potentially put a lot more money on the table.

Leeds United look set to break the bank this summer. Following their promotion to the Premier League under Daniel Farke, it’s been reported that Leeds United are ready to spend £100million on new signings.

And there seems to be a high chance that the club smashes its transfer record. Currently, Georginio Rutter is Leeds United’s most expensive signing of all time, having joined in a £35.5million deal back in 2023.

There are reports that Leeds United are in talks to sign Caoimhin Kelleher who could cost up to £40million this summer, whilst Marseille’s Leonardo Balerdi has been linked with Leeds United, and he has a staggering £38million price tag.

Another new and expensive name has since been added to the club’s wishlist in Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Leeds United told to up their valuation of Mateus Fernandes

On Friday, it was revealed that Leeds United are in the race to sign Fernandes from Southampton this summer. The Saints paid £15million to sign the central midfielder from Sporting CP last summer and the 20-year-old has been a shining light, scoring twice and assisting three times in 35 Premier League games for the relegated Saints.

Now though, Daily Echo has weighed in on the matter, revealing how Southampton officials behind the scenes are laughing at this apparent £30million valuation of Fernandes, even writing that one ‘source’ stated: “His hair is worth £30million.”

The same report adds that ‘senior figures’ at St Mary’s are eager to keep Fernandes as part of their 2025/26 campaign in the Championship, but that ‘there will be an acceptance that all players have a price’ this summer.

Alan Nixon drops massive hint as Leeds United enter race to sign Mateus Fernandes

Several teams are being linked with Fernandes right now, including Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, and Leeds United. On Friday though it was Palace and Leeds being linked with the exciting young midfielder.

Soon after, journalist Alan Nixon was asked on social media who he thinks might win the race to sign Fernandes this summer, and Nixon backed Leeds United to win the race for Fernandes, suggesting that Farke’s side simply need him more than Palace do.

But this latest news regarding his valuation will be worrying for Leeds United: Farke needs to sign several new players this summer and anything more than £30million on Fernandes could leave the Whites very light on resources for the rest of the summer.
