It was nice today sitting back and watching a playoff final at Wembley where Leeds’ season doesn’t ride on the outcome whatsoever.
In Sheffield United and Sunderland, both sides have shown Premier League quality this season and it was the rightful final, and Chris Wilder’s Blades will have thought they were on their way.

The Black Cats then looked the side most likely to find a winner, which they did when Brighton-bound Tommy Watson rolled in a brilliant winner in the 95th minute to confirm who is joining the Whites and Burnley in the Premier League next season.

For Wilder and the Blades, it’s another season in the EFL that awaits them in 25/26, watching on as Yorkshire rivals Leeds embark on their survival quest.

Our wobble in March and the beginning of April got one half of Sheffield incredibly giddy, and they absolutely got ahead of themselves with their reactions.
Now, they find themselves consigned to the wretched Championship promotion battle for another year, watching us, Sunderland and Burnley embark on an exciting journey next season.
They could well be smiling in a year’s time if the same three are relegated while they bounce back with promotion, but for now, we’ve had the last laugh after an awful lot of comments this season.
