Wolves have £25m starlet now ‘on the agenda’ after Matheus Cunha’s departure

Wolves are keeping tabs on a highly rated Portuguese talent this summer, sources close to Molineux News understand.

Matheus Cunha’s exit and Rayan Ait-Nouri’s expected move to Man City paint a very bleak picture for Wolves heading into the summer window.

Replacing those players is no easy feat, and Fosun could risk relegation if they don’t spend their money right.

In terms of possible replacements, it seems like Wolves may go back to their old roots and return to Portugal in search of an attacking gem.

Roger Fernandes is on Wolves’ radar

Cunha’s departure and Pablo Sarabia’s contract exit leave Wolves’ forward ranks light in numbers heading into next season.

With this in mind, it seems like the Molineux hierarchy have earmarked an exciting Portuguese attacker as the answer to Pereira’s needs.

Speaking exclusively to Molineux News, TBR’s Graeme Bailey informed us of Wolves’ desire to keep tabs on Braga’s Roger Fernandes.

“I think the Portuguese league will be somewhere that they explore; it wouldn’t surprise me if they do look towards that league again.

“I’ve heard Roger Fernandes’ name linked to Wolves in recent weeks as well, wouldn’t surprise me if he was on the agenda.

“The Portuguese market has been very good to Wolves. When the market has been very kind to you, like it has been with Wolves, why wouldn’t you go there again? You trust it, you believe in it.”

Wolves will face stiff competition for Fernandes’ signature

If Wolves are to act on their interest in Fernandes, they may want to do so quickly. That is because they aren’t the only Premier League outfit interested in the 19-year-old.

According to Portuguese outlet Ojogo, both Manchester clubs are said to hold an interest as well as the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brighton.

Given how Fernandes has performed for Braga this season, it’s no surprise to see some of the Premier League’s best come calling.

The report also states that Fernandes has a release clause of £33m, but Braga would be tempted to deal at around £25m this summer.

That sort of fee could tempt Fosun into a deal, whether they will want to spend that much on a 19-year-old, however, we will have to wait and see.
