First it was the confirmation that Spurs had sacked head coach and former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou after two years in post.
Michael Stewart wants Postecoglou for Scotland
After the match, the BBC Sportsound team analysed the embarrassing performance and the discussion naturally shifted to the future of Steve Clarke as Scotland gaffer.
Clarke is likely to leave his post after the 2026 World Cup when his contract expires, and pundit Michael Stewart wants Postecoglou to be his replacement in Mount Florida.
Speaking live on radio, Stewart said: “There’s a degree of apathy (from Scotland fans to Clarke), and you don’t want that.
“The manager has said it himself. He views it through to the World Cup, then he feels it would be time to make a change. And then big Ange can come in.”
Postecoglou to Scotland is unlikely
Scotland have lost their last two games at Hampden with three goals conceded in each encounter. It comes after a disastrous Euro 2024 last summer that saw the team finish bottom of their group.
The Tartan Army have largely turned against Clarke as a result, blaming the former Kilmarnock manager for his negative tactics and formation.
But despite all of this, the SFA are unlikely to bite the bullet and relieve Clarke of his duties.
He has one more year on his contract and said there is a “75% chance” of him walking away after the World Cup in America.
Postecoglou would be an exciting appointment for Scotland fans, and you could argue the time is right to make a change before 2026 World Cup qualifying starts in September.
It’s wishful thinking though, you can’t expect the SFA to do something that makes 100% total sense.
Besides, Ange is likely in need of a break and probably favours going back home for the summer to Australia to see friends and family.
