Everton make first move to sign ‘important player’ Man United once spent £47m on

The Friedkins are financially backing Everton in the market but the club will still look to pick up some shrewd pieces of business.

It is going to be a busy summer for David Moyes and the recruitment team on Merseyside with plenty of positions needing to be addressed.

Everton still haven’t been able to secure an answer on the future of some of their out-of-contract players.

With just a matter of days until his contract expires, Everton still want to keep Idrissa Gana Gueye and are offering him a new deal.

Regardless of the Senegal international’s future, Everton do need to address their options in midfield.

There is now one player believed to be emerging on the Blues’ radar who already has bags of Premier League experience.

Everton eyeing former Manchester United midfielder Fred

Moyes is keen to sign a new midfielder for Everton with more quality needing to be added to the starting XI and the squad depth.

The Toffees have already seen Abdoulaye Doucoure’s departure confirmed as he will test out the market as a free agent.

According to Sozcu Spor, Everton are showing an interest in signing the Fenerbahce midfielder Fred this summer.

It is claimed the Brazilian is available for a transfer if a club is willing to meet the €18m (£15m) asking price put on him by Jose Mourinho’s side.

Fred previously played in the Premier League with Manchester United before making the move over to Turkey.

The Toffees have their eyes on other options, though.

Everton are also keen on Wilfred Ndidi who is free to leave Leicester City for a small fee following their Premier League relegation.

What Jose Mourinho said about Fred

Man United sold Fred in 2023 to the Turkish giants, but it looks as if his time with Fenerbahce could be coming to an end.

The Red Devils spent huge money on signing Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee in the region of £47m.

At the age of 32, Fred is still impressing Mourinho who has waxed lyrical about the Brazilian earlier this season.

“I don’t like to say this but I miss Fred. He is an important player for us. We finished the first half of the tie trailing 2-1,” Mourinho said.

Although £15m may not be huge money in today’s game, that is still more than what Everton paid for Alcaraz, which should be food for thought.
