Rangers must do all they can to keep Raskin for Russell Martin after ‘massive’ news

Nico Raskin could be the star for Rangers under Russell Martin next season.

Although the new boss has plenty of work to do to improve his Rangers side for Scottish Premiership action next season, he already has some talent to build around.

Raskin’s future has been spoken about for much of the summer so far, though, with suggestions that an exit could be on the cards.

Kyle Lafferty names Raskin challenge for Rangers

Not many current members of the Rangers squad covered themselves in much glory at Ibrox this season.

However, Raskin emerged as a star towards the end of the campaign, with an impressive run of form.

The 24-year-old made 33 Scottish Premiership appearances throughout, delivering 14 goal contributions across that.

With two years remaining on his contract at Ibrox, though, there have been suggestions that the Gers should cash in should an appropriate offer arise this summer, with Fiorentina an interested side.

Impressive performances on the international stage for Belgium have only added to the attention Raskin is getting, too.

The Gers will be looking to bring some money into the club to ensure they are set up properly for a sustainable financial future.

However, former Gers man Kyle Lafferty has told Rangers they must do what they can to retain someone who could be a core part of the side.

Lafferty told the Daily Record (14 June): “Some of the players who are already at Rangers are outstanding and Russell will do well to hold on to them.

“Raskin falls into that category. For me, he’s one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership, so keeping him is a must, especially the way Russ wants to play.

“We have to keep Raskin at Ibrox, but it’s going to be hard because of how well he’s performed recently.

“There will be teams in for him after making his international debut for Belgium. That’s been massive for him.

“But Russ should be looking to build the team around him. Raskin is a workhorse and exactly the type Russ will want at Rangers.

“The team will press high up the park, and Raskin can do that.”

Raskin contract should be priority for Rangers

Understandably, much of the attention at Ibrox so far has been on who the new faces will be, and additions are certainly needed to give Martin the best chance of progression.

However, that means nothing if the strongest players from the current squad cannot be retained too and the statement that sends is as important.

The Light Blues must show that they are not just a selling club, but rather, able to possess some of the top talent to push towards the top of the Scottish Premiership.

With that in mind, Rangers must do all they can this summer to secure Raskin on a new contract to both protect and benefit themselves.

This must be as much of a priority for Martin at Ibrox as additions are this summer.
