However, it is always tough to see how they integrate into the starting side, and whether they gel with their new teammates.
This is particularly tough in attack, with so much to know regarding who runs where and when.
Fortunately, with one of those new arrivals, he should know this particular squad all too well.
New Everton signing impresses Sean Dyche
Speaking to Everton’s official website after his side’s enthralling 3-3 draw with Sligo Rovers, Sean Dyche‘s assessment of the game was one of contentedness.
After all, in what was their first pre-season match against a side already mid-way through their league season, it marked a fine result, and important minutes in the legs of his squad.
However, those he did seek to praise were his new signings, having seen all three of them make their first appearances in royal blue since joining earlier in the summer.
He took the time to praise all three equally, but did hone in on Jack Harrison in particular.
Dyche claimed: ‘Jack looked sharp, a few are getting up there with fitness and a few look a bit sharper than others – it’s standard sort of thing for this first game of the season.
‘We wanted to get a game in and I’m pleased we did. It had the right feel to it, the way we went about it had the right feel. Rusty and fatigued, of course, but I was expecting that.’
Jack Harrison could thrive for Everton this season
Having looked solid all season most recently for Everton, enjoying a loan spell throughout the 2023/24 Premier League term, it always felt like he had more to offer the Toffees.
However, having only joined late in the summer after failed efforts to sign his teammate, with Everton reigniting interest in Wilfried Gnonto now coincidentally, he did not really get a full Dyche pre-season.
Not only that, but he also joined with a longstanding back injury which halted his true integration into the first team.
When he finally got fit, he was always playing catch-up, and therefore we never really saw the best of him.
A return of just three goals and three assists was okay, but underwhelming for a man who recorded 12, nine and 16 goal contributions in the past three Premier League campaigns with Leeds United.
However, having now been snagged back in June, and thus given a full summer to be at peak fitness when the new term comes around, we could see a fresher, fitter, more prolific Harrison ready to shine in England’s top flight again.
