JONATHAN DAVID TRANSFER UPDATE AFTER THE STAR AGENT SPOTTED AT THE CLUB..

‘Newcastle to make new Jonathan David move after West Ham update’

Newcastle United have been given a new chance to make a new move for Jonathan David following the latest update on West Ham’s stance on the striker.

The Magpies are yet to add to their senior squad in the summer transfer window, as they look to build on a season in which they won the League Cup and qualified for the Champions League.

That lack of transfer activity has caused frustration at Newcastle, given they need to add to their side to cope with the demands of competing on even more fronts next season.

However, Eddie Howe and co. may now have been given new hope that they could complete one eye-catching signing before the start of next season, in the form of Jonathan David.
West Ham fear missing out on Jonathan David despite Italy update

In the lead up to the summer window, it was reported that Newcastle are interested in signing David this summer, when his contract with Lille expires.

The Canada international would provide top quality cover and competition for Alexander Isak at St James’ Park, which may be neccessary given the heavy schedule next season and departure of Callum Wilson.

However, it had seemed the Magpies were set to miss out on a deal, with suggestions that David was set for a move to Serie A despite interest from Premier League clubs.

Now though, a new update suggests the striker has seen a move to Italy hit a stumbling block, opening the door for Premier League teams to make moves of their own [The Telegraph].

Even so, it is noted that while West Ham like David they believe he wants Champions League football, which could rule them out of the race.

On the flip side, it would present an opportunity for Newcastle to make a move, given they can offer the 25-year-old such an opportunity next season.
Newcastle United to weigh up Joao Pedro situation amid new transfer update

As the pressure builds on the Magpies to get their business done, they now look to be attempting to make some moves in the market, although they may fall short.

A triple offer by Newcastle for Joao Pedro, Anthony Elanga and James Trafford is highly unlikely to be enough to secure the services of of the trio, if any.

Indeed, it is even suggested that they could pull out of their pursuit for either Pedro or Elanga, if they agree a fee for the other.

Given David is available on a free, he would be a much cheaper target than Pedro, even accounting for agents fees and signing bonuses, who is seemingly being eyed as a centre-forward option by the Magpies.

If Newcastle were to sign David for nothing, it would therefore enable them to pull back from their attempts to sign the Brighton man, and instead invest money from that bid into a move for Elanga.

Of course, Pedro is less of a natural number nine than the former Lille man, so bringing in the Canada international would cause more of a clash with Isak.

However, it is still a signing that would surely guarantee extra goals, and on a free when compared to the sizeable fee they would have to pay for the Brighton ace, it could still make sense financially.

There would also be the question of whether Isak and David would want to compete with each other for a place in the starting XI.

But with even more football for the Magpies to play this season, Howe may feel he can share the minutes around.

Indeed, with Newcastle needing to back up what they did last season to show they can become regular contenders, two high quality centre-forwards go some way to helping them do that.

With that in mind, those in charge at St James’ Park will no doubt be taking a keen interest on the latest news around David, and West Ham’s own expectations around a deal for the striker.
