CELTIC have reportedly had a £6.9million bid booted out for a striker who scored 25 goals last season.

Brendan Rodgers is eyeing another striker to join Shin Yamada at Parkhead, with the Japanese hitman closing in on a move to Glasgow.

Giuseppe Ambrosino was one player who was heavily linked with Celtic alongside Yamada, but the Napoli hitman is edging closer to completing a move to Cremonese instead.

Now reports in Romania suggests that Rodgers has now turned his attention to CFR Cluj hitman Louis Munteanu after seemingly losing out on the Italy under-21 star.

Munteanu enjoyed a standout campaign last season in Romania with Cluj, where he netted 23 times in the league and twice in the cup.

Romanian outlet iAMSPORT claim the initial bid was quickly turfed out by club chiefs, with owner Nelutu Varga looking for more than DOUBLE that figure before allowing him to leave.

It’s suggested the club are looking for around £15m for their star man.

The 23-year-old was the top scorer in the Romanian top flight with his impressive goal tally last term.

Cluj spent close to £2.5m to bring the forward back to his homeland permanently last summer following a four-year stint in Italy with Fiorentina.

He came through the youth ranks at Viitorul Costanta before being picked up by the Serie A side in 2020.

Munteanu scored 22 goals in 65 league games for Farul Constanta on loan from Fiorentina, though, before Cluj stepped in 12 months ago with an offer which proved to be money well spent.

Munteanu is already off the mark this season as he netted in the 3-0 win over Paski in the Uefa Europa League first round qualifier.

Cluj are in no rush to sell as they are pushing to qualify for the competition‘s league phase this year.

They face Swiss side Lugano in the next round, with the first leg being played away from home on July 24.

Munteanu captained Romania Under-21s in the Euros this summer.

He started all three games against Italy, Spain and Slovakia, and scored against Spain as Romania lost all three fixtures.

He went head to head with fellow Celtic striker target Ambrosino in the opening game of the group as Italy ran out 1-0 winners.
