Leeds met Igor Paixao and his representatives last week to present their project to the Brazilian and have been convinced about his quality to make an impact in the Premier League.
However, it appeared on Saturday that the winger is close to finalising a deal to move to Marseille, who were seemingly close to working out an agreement with Feyenoord.
But according to Dutch journalist Mikos Gouka, an agreement is still not in place between Feyenoord and Marseille for the deal to go through.
Paixao has agreed terms on a five-year deal, but the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement over a fee for the transfer.
Marseille sporting director Medhi Benatia will meet his Feyenoord technical director, Dennis te Kloese, later today to attempt to reach an agreement.
However, if a deal cannot be finalised by the end of the day, Marseille are ready to walk away from the negotiations and pursue other targets.
Leeds must jump in to further make it difficult for Marseille
Feyenoord are said to be demanding a deal in excess of £30m before agreeing to sell the winger, and it seems Marseille are not prepared to match those figures.
Leeds are convinced about Paixao, and must push to further make it complicated for Marseille by reaching out to Feyenoord with a counter-offer.
As a Premier League club, the Whites have the financial muscle to match Marseille’s asking price despite the 49ers wanting to be careful about not overspending.
If Leeds are convinced Paixao is the real deal, they must push the envelope and edge ahead of Marseille to sign the Brazilian winger.
