With the 2025/26 Premier League season almost upon us, many have begun making their predictions for how the campaign will play out. AI has predicted who the top scorers in the division will be, and pundits all over the country are revealing how they expect the league table to look once May rolls around.
The latest to do so is Alan Shearer. The former Newcastle United striker has been working as a television pundit and a commentator since he hung up his boots in 2006. He’s most synonymous with Match of the Day, but has done plenty of work outside of the show too. Recently, in a column with Bet Fair, the English revealed his full Premier League table prediction, sharing where he thought every team in the top flight would finish this season.

To the surprise of likely no one, Shearer has predicted that the three teams promoted from the Championship last time out will all immediately drop back down to the second tier at the first time of asking. He’s listed Burnley to finish dead last in the table, believing their excellent defensive prowess from last year won’t translate to the big time. He has Newcastle’s major rivals Sunderland going down in 19th, clearly unimpressed with the work they’ve done in the transfer window this summer and he has Leeds United sinking back down in 18th.
The former forward expects Thomas Frank’s departure at Brentford to deliver a huge blow to the Bees, tipping them to finish just outside the drop zone in 17th, while he also has West Ham United slotted in at 16th.

The one-time Premier League champion thinks Fulham will take a step back under Marco Silva this season and has them down to finish 15th in the table, with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton both finishing above them in 14th and 13th respectively. Crystal Palace finished 12th last time out and Shearer expects them to repeat the feat in 2025/26.
Bournemouth had their best ever Premier League campaign last year, but as a result, they’ve been stripped of several key assets. The likes of Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez have departed the Cherries, but Shearer doesn’t think that will harm them too much and has tipped them to finish 11th.

Moving into the top half of the table, Shearer has predicted that Brighton will just about squeeze into the top 10, finishing 10th. He then has Nottingham Forest taking a step back in comparison to the 2024/25 campaign. The midlands club flew high last season and qualified for European football with a seventh-place finish. Now, the Englishman expects them to land ninth in the table.
He thinks Thomas Frank will turn things around for Tottenham Hotspur. He has the north London side coming eighth this year, a significant improvement on their 17th-place finish last time out. Shearer then tips Aston Villa to finish seventh and Manchester United to finish sixth. He’s clearly a fan of what Ruben Amorim has been doing in the transfer market this summer, with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo coming through the doors at Old Trafford.

Entering the elite now, Shearer has predicted his beloved Newcastle United will just make it into the top five and Champions League qualification. Despite it being a torrid summer of recruitment for the Magpies, he hasn’t lost faith in Eddie Howe and the squad to get the job done. He’s tipped Chelsea to come fourth, replicating their achievements last season under Enzo Maresca.
Despite some solid recruitment earlier in the summer, the former Blackburn Rovers talisman doesn’t think Manchester City will bounce back from their issues last season and thinks Pep Guardiola’s side will finish third again. He also doesn’t think the title race will play out any differently this year, with Arsenal falling short and finishing as runners-up for the fourth straight season, while Liverpool will get their hands on the trophy once again.
