Everton are a cash-strapped club seeking to do whatever they can to improve their squad, and thus far Kevin Thelwell has worked wonders.
Sean Dyche’s team is, on paper, in a far better place than it was this time last year, although current injuries might skew today’s feelings towards that notion.
Regardless, it’s a long old season, but after the first two Premier League games, there are glaring deficiencies that they cannot allow to persist for the next six or nine months.
Fortunately, they are already on the hunt to solve one chief issue.
The latest on Everton’s interest in Kieran Trippier
Speaking exclusively to Everton.News, we sought to snag all the latest transfer advice from well-respected journalist Graeme Bailey.
Naturally, the hot topic of conversation was Everton’s interest in Kieran Trippier, who has been linked with a move to Goodison Park earlier in the week.

Their likelihood to make a move has likely been spurred on by their poor start to the Premier League campaign, and this right-back is an addition that now must be made given how bare they are in that area.
Bailey noted: ‘It’s one of them where, obviously with Everton only having one loan option left… they’ve seen the Broja deal not happen.
‘As we discussed, Everton’s right-back spot is not good. It’s staggering that he’ll be the youngest there [out of Coleman and Young].
‘They [Everton] want to do a loan, Newcastle would rather do permanent but the player has said he wants to leave, which we already knew Newcastle were shopping him. Bayern spoke about him in January and this summer, the Saudi Pro League stays open later but Newcastle want him out before then and he wants to go so yeah, it’s got a fair chance.
‘I think there’s a few interested, Everton’s heads are above the parapet so I think he fits what Everton need. He’s an upgrade on what they’ve got.’
Everton’s right-back problem woefully exposed
First it was Brighton and Hove Albion, and now it’s Tottenham Hotspur, both of whom identified Everton’s right-back problem as a position of immense weakness.
Kaoru Mitoma would only add to the turmoil already felt with Ashley Young in position by getting the 39-year-old sent off, which has truly exposed the lack of depth Dyche boasts in both full-back spots.
He might not be the long-term solution, at 33 years old, but Trippier has enjoyed a fine career deputising on both flanks for Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle United.
Last season was a tough one for the £120k-a-week creator, but it’s worth remembering that, for all his defensive weaknesses, he did conjure up ten assists.

Within a Dyche system, where he will not be relied upon to push up high, it could cover his physical frailties whilst still allowing him to forge chances.
Trippier is too good still at his veteran age to sit on the bench, and that offer of first-team football as well as a reunion with his former manager could be enough to tempt him to trade Tyneside for Merseyside.
