Marking the end of this summer’s biggest transfer saga, Alexander Isak is set to leave Newcastle United and join Arne Slot’s Premier League titleholders Liverpool on Deadline Day. Now, reports are claiming that Isak is set to miss out on a hefty payment after Newcastle negotiated a payment out of his deal.
GIVEMESPORT’s senior transfer correspondent, Fabrizio Romano, has reported that the Reds are set to smash the Premier League transfer record in a deal that will see Isak, 25, boost Slot’s ranks to a ridiculous level. He is set to undergo his medical today.
Moving to Anfield this summer was the only viable option for 52-cap Sweden international Isak, who plundered 27 strikes in all competitions in 2024/25, and he is set to line up alongside the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah in the coming weeks of the 2025/26 season.
Isak Set to Miss out on Lofty Payment After Newcastle Negotiate Deal
Isak’s summer departure has seemed inevitable for a while now – and Newcastle getting their hands on Nick Woltemade last week meant that Eddie Howe and his entourage were more than happy to part ways after finding a like-for-like replacement.
According to a report from Mail Online, Newcastle were hopeful they could persuade the ex-Real Sociedad talisman to remain at St James’ Park amid clamour over his signature. That all changed on Monday, and there was an acceptance that he’d leave.
However, the report also states that Solna-born Isak – widely regarded as one of the best strikers in world football – will not be receiving a loyalty payment from Newcastle. And that’s despite the Swedish sharpshooter never handing in a transfer request.
As explained by Martin Salisbury, a solicitor and course leader at the University Campus of Football Business, players could face significant financial penalties if they are to formally hand in a transfer request. Per BBC Sport, Salisbury said:
“By not handing in a transfer request, the player is preserving the value of their contract, meaning they can claim more in outstanding contracts when they are sold. If a player is sold after not formally handing in a transfer request, they would be entitled to claim for any outstanding wages from their contract.”
Isak expressed his desire to part ways with the northeast club earlier this summer amid Newcastle’s interest in other options. Alongside the aforementioned Woltemade, a deal has been struck with Brentford for Yoane Wissa, it has been reported by Romano.

The transfer of Isak, after not playing a single minute of Newcastle’s first three Premier League games of the season, is set to cost Liverpool a record-shattering fee of £130 million. That, as reported by the masses, includes a rarely-seen ‘solidarity’ payment of £5 million.
That figure will be shared among the clubs – AIK Fotboll, Willem II, Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad – that have helped and develop the 25-year-old hitman into one of the world’s most exciting talents between the ages of 12 and 23.
