The Senegal international was caught napping within minutes of kick-off, letting Youri Tielemans in behind, almost opening the scoring at Villa Park.

Thankfully, it came to nothing and goals from Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the Toffees in the lead, before Ollie Watkins halved the deficit.

Everton take on Aston Villa in Premier League
The Toffees were no doubt looking for vengeance after their poor outing against Bournemouth in their last Premier League game.
Sean Dyche chose to keep near the exact same starting XI aside from the absence of Seamus Coleman due to injury, with Ashley Young coming in.
While Coleman’s absence was expected after he was injured on international duty, more changes were predicted to be made.

However, it seems as if the former Burnley manager’s gamble has paid off as McNeil managed to bag the opening goal of the game after a stellar solo run.
The Toffees now find themselves creeping out of the Premier League’s relegation zone thanks to their lead and will want to build on this performance in the second half.
After a slow start from the likes of Gueye, it has been a sensational start at Villa Park against a team getting ready for Champions League football.
This is more like it.
