ewcastle United had a disappointing summer transfer window as they failed in their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
The arrivals of Lloyd Kelly, William Osula and Odysseas Vlachodimos at St James’ Park did little to excite the supporters.
However, despite their failure to make a marquee addition, Eddie Howe’s side have made an excellent start to their new Premier League campaign.
Following wins over Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle claimed a 2-1 success over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
The Magpies conceded a goal in the first-half but recovered to score twice after the break to seal all points at the Molineux Stadium.
Fabian Schar reduced the deficit before Harvey Barnes unleashed a long-range stunner in stoppage-time to win the away game for the visitors.
Manager Eddie Howe was very happy with Barnes as he called the 26-year-old a ‘lethal’ player.
The English boss told BBC Match of the Day: “He’s an outstanding finisher, he really is. He’s lethal coming in on that right foot. He scores all types of goals, that was a long-range strike which was second to none at a big moment for us so I’m delighted with him”.
Barnes started on the bench when the game began, but Howe made the surprise decision to feature him by taking off Alexander Isak.
The England international repaid the faith of his manager as he made a huge impact in the match.
The 26-year-old scored a stunning goal, and also contributed two key passes and won three of his four duels.
On the back of this performance, Barnes deserves more opportunities in the first-team.
He has featured in four Premier League games so far this campaign, but has made it to the starting XI only once.
