RANGERS FANS IN COMPLETE JOY AS EX IBROX STAR OVERTAKES SEAN DYCHE AS CLEAR FAVORITE TO REPLACE RUSSELL MARTIN

AFTER 123 days, Russell Martin is out as Rangers manager.

The former Scotland international defender, who joined the Ibrox club on a three-year deal in June, was sacked after winning just five of his 17 games in charge.

He arrived six months after being dismissed from Southampton and departs as the shortest serving permanent manager in Rangers‘ history.

Martin had been under immense pressure for weeks but club chiefs had resisted the urge to axe him, despite growing fan fury.

A 1-1 draw with Falkirk proved to be the end of the line, with the match followed by ugly scenes in which ultras surrounded the team bus and Martin himself had to be given a police escort to leave the stadium safely.

Some fans later sent tirades of abuse at the players once they emerged to board the bus, and others even clashed with cops as tensions boiled over.

Now the focus is on who will be the team’s next manager.

Last week we reported that former Everton boss Sean Dyche was the favourite with the bookies.

But in the last week the odds have been slashed in favour of another candidate.

That man is ex-Rangers star Kevin Muscat.

The Australian was high on the club’s list when they appointed Philippe Clement.

And now the current Shanghai Port head coach could be back in the frame to take over in the dugout in Govan.

According to Oddschecker, Muscat is listed at 2/1 with BetVictor (having been 12/1 last week).

Dyche was previously 11/4 and he remains in the betting but at 4/1.

Former Gers manager Steven Gerrard is also listed at 3/1.

Other potential candidates include Gary O’Neill (6/1), Michael Carrick (8/1), Danny Rohl (8/1), Barry Ferguson (8/1), Derek McInnes (10/1) and Steve Cooper (10/1).

The likes of Chris Wilder (12/1), Marco Rose (16/1) and James Morrison (20/1) are listed as long shots, as is another ex-Rangers hero in Steven Davis (20/1).
