Rangers are in the hunt for a new manager, and GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that Hearts boss Derek McInnes would be open to joining the Ibrox outfit.
Rangers are in a difficult situation at the moment, sitting in eighth position in the Scottish Premiership table. The Gers have won just once in the league during the 2025/2026 season, while also being knocked out of the Champions League and subsequently relegated to the Europa League.
The Glasgow giants announced on Sunday evening that manager Russell Martin had been relieved of his duties after a disappointing start to his tenure at Ibrox. The search is now under way for a new manager, and the board have time to get things right with the international break taking place over the next two weeks, but getting someone win as soon as possible will likely be the priority.
Derek McInnes Open to Joining Rangers
According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Hearts manager McInnes would be open to joining Rangers as a replacement for Martin if he were approached by the Ibrox outfit. It’s believed that McIness has a release clause in his contract, with sources confirming that it’s relatively low.
It’s unclear whether Rangers would actually be interested in bringing McInnes to the club to replace Martin, and according to GIVEMESPORT sources, Steven Gerrard, Kevin Muscat, and Danny Rohl are the initial contenders for the vacant managerial position at the moment.
Described as ‘fantastic’ by Craig Halkett, McInnes has done a superb job with Hearts this season, and it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if clubs started to show an interest in securing his signature. The Edinburgh-based side currently sit at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, two points clear of Celtic, and they are yet to lose in the league this season.
They’ve won four games on the bounce in the league, already showing huge improvement after their seventh-place finish during the 2024/2025 campaign. Whether Rangers opt to consider McInnes remains to be seen, but they already have multiple options they are evaluating.
Rangers’ campaign is far from over, despite winning just once in the Scottish Premiership so far this term. They already sit 11 points behind Hearts, which certainly isn’t ideal, but there’s still plenty of football left to play, while they remain in the Europa League and other cup competitions.
