Anthony Gordon issue four-word reaction to Newcastle United contract update

Newcastle United are trying to tie Anthony Gordon down to a new contract.

The 23-year-old was a man in demand during the summer transfer window, and actually almost left St James’ Park.

Liverpool and Arsenal were linked with Anthony Gordon, with the former almost getting the chance to sign him.

During the Magpies’ PSR debacle, Newcastle offered Liverpool the chance to sign Gordon, as they scrambled to bring in enough money to avoid a points deduction.

Fortunately, Newcastle were able to do it without selling their number 10. However, there were fears that Gordon’s head was turned by Liverpool’s interest.

Once the PSR deadline passed and Newcastle had complied, the chances of Gordon leaving drastically decreased.

Now they want him to extend his stay at St James’ Park, with Gordon’s current deal expiring in 2026.

It has been reported that Newcastle’s priority is to give Gordon a new contract, and it is a deal that could prove to be very lucrative.

It has also been reported that Gordon could become Newcastle’s best paid player if he puts pen to paper on a new deal.
How Gordon feels about possible new deal at St James’ Park

It appears that talks are heading in the right direction, and HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that Gordon is ‘open’ to signing a contract extension with Newcastle United.

“Gordon is open to it [signing a new contract],” he said.

“Liverpool’s interest is not going to dissipate, even if Gordon does sign a new contract with Newcastle.

“Talks are ongoing and have accelerated over the last week or so from what I am hearing. Gordon is open to signing a new deal and will be offered a big pay rise. It’s progressing.”
Newcastle also want to extend Alexander Isak’s contract

Gordon is not the only player who has been in talks to sign a new contract with Newcastle United.

The Magpies have also been looking to extend Alexander Isak‘s deal, although negotiations have taken longer than anticipated.

It was reported back in April that Newcastle would likely agree a new deal with Isak in a matter of weeks. Five months later and an extension is yet to be announced.

Bailey has commented on the Isak contract situation, telling Geordie Boot Boys that talks have not stalled.

“The club thought Isak’s contract situation would have been sorted by now,” he said.

“He’s been in talks for a long time, and that hasn’t quite progressed. It hasn’t stalled, though.

“For Isak and Gordon, both contracts would include a release clause.”

It is no surprise that new deals for Gordon and Isak will include a release clause.

That was also the case when Bruno Guimaraes agreed a new Toon deal last year, with his contract including a £100million release clause that was only available for a short period of time.
