Lineker reacts to ‘Ludicrous’ Everton v Brentford incident as footage emerges

Gary Lineker believes Christian Norgaard’s red card against Everton on Saturday was a “ludicrous” decision and not deserving of a sending-off.

The Brentford midfielder was battling Yoanne Wissa to get on the end of a ball from Ethan Pinnock and left his leg in the challenge for the ball which ended up with his foot being planted into Jordan Pickford’s

Speaking on Match of the Day (23 November), Lineker shared his thoughts on the sending off of the Denmark international.

“Another 0-0 for Everton, it wasn’t the greatest game ever so let’s talk about that red card,” Lineker said. “It’s ludicrous isn’t it.”

Alan Shearer replied: “I don’t think it’s a red card either, I think it’s two players who are running towards the ball at pace and Norgaard he has to try and get that ball.

“It’s one of those that doesn’t look great in slow motion but he has to go for that ball, it’s completely accidental.”

Everton should have capitalised on Brentford having ten men

Norgaard was sent off in the 41st minute, and while Thomas Frank may have parked the bus to salvage something from the clash, with the extra man on the pitch, the Toffees should have run the Bees into the ground.

Instead, things couldn’t have been any different, and the Merseyside outfit failed to live up to expectations once again.

Sean Dyche’s role as Toffees boss has been under major scrutiny since the start of the term and, at the moment, it feels like the Englishman is being kept in his role due to the impending takeover of the club.

The former Burnley boss hasn’t been able to lead his squad in the way fans expected this term, and while there has been the odd occasion when Everton have shown their quality, it feels like much more can still come from the team.

When Brentford’s away record this season is also taken into account, it shows how poor the Toffees were and why fans are so fed up with the recent performances of their team.
