Shock Premier League club ‘submit £5m bid’ to poach Jose Mourinho from Fenerbahce

Jose Mourinho did not hold back with a brutal response to Pep Guardiola’s cheeky dig at him winning twice as many Premier League titles as him.

Ahead of Manchester City‘s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, Guardiola violated his former rival with a comment in a press conference.

The Catalan was asked about putting up six fingers to the Liverpool fans in reference to how many Premier League titles he has lifted following Anfield singing “You’re getting sacked in the morning” in the 2-0 victory on Sunday.

Guardiola denied that his actions were a sign of him “losing his cool” and was asked about his gesture being similar to Mourinho, who held up three fingers to remind people that he won the Premier League on three occasions.

Asked about the evoking memories of Mourinho’s antics, Guardiola replied: “He won three, I won six.. but we are the same like that. We are together in the those situations.”

The Catalan proceeded to further explain why he did the gesture but a few days later and Mourinho issued a response, taking a dig at Guardiola and City’s ongoing 115 charges case with the Premier League.

“Guardiola said he won six trophies while I won three,” as per Sporx, via the Daily Mail.

“However, I won them fair and clean. If I lose, I would like to congratulate my opponent for being better than me. I don’t want to win while having 150 legal cases.”

Mourinho’s remarks follow on from Arne Slot’s joke about Mo Salah referring to City’s alleged breaches when discussing potentially playing his final home game against them on Sunday.

“Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 acquisitions [charges] that are done,” Slot quipped, stressing that he was joking.

City’s hearing started in September but latest reports claim a verdict may not happen until after the current season. If found guilty of alleged financial breaches, City could face possible relegation from the Premier League.

Mourinho, now managing Fenerbahce in Turkey, is hopeful of receiving a bonus and fourth Premier League medal if City are punished and stripped of titles after guiding Manchester United to a second-placed finish.

Speaking in October ahead of playing United in the Europa League, Mourinho said: “I think we still have a chance to win that league because maybe they punish Man City with points, and maybe we win that league. Then they have to pay me the bonus and give me my medal.”

Jose Mourinho is eyeing not one but TWO Premier League players ahead of Turkey’s transfer deadline, according to stunning reports.

The UK transfer window slammed shut last Friday but clubs in Turkey can still bring in new players with their market still open.

The Turkish transfer window closes on September 13 and ahead of the deadline looming, Fenerbahce are keeping tabs on a Premier League duo.

Mourinho has already been very busy this summer, having signed the likes of Youssef En-Nesyri, Caglar Soyuncu and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Sofyan Amrabat, who spent last season on loan at Manchester United, has also been drafted in.

But Mourinho’s still hellbent on securing new talent, with Kieran Trippier and Ben Chilwell thought to be on the club’s radar.

According to HITC, Fenerbahce are one of three Turkish sides who have enquired about signing the 33-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy on a permanent deal.

It comes after the defender ‘agreed personal terms’ with another Super Lig outfit.

The former England international’s future lies away from St. James’ Park, with a summer move expected.

He’s played two games this season – both substitute appearances.

And, according to The Telegraph, Chelsea are open to sending Chilwell on loan to Turkey, with the player facing at ‘least four months in the football wilderness’ if he stays.

Mourinho is believed to be keen on acquiring his services in what would be a double swoop if he also signed Trippier.

Unlike Trippier, Chilwell has yet to feature for Enzo Maresca as he’s deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

The 27-year-old, who joined the club in a transfer worth £45 million, played 13 league games last season and is unlikely to get minutes unless he completes a switch this summer.

Sneijder would later come fourth in the 2010 Ballon d’Or standings – a decision he has since described as “unfair” following his efforts with Milan – while Inter striker Samuel Eto’o came 12th with just 1.37% of the vote.

Eto’o never came close to winning the prestigious trophy but Mourinho is convinced he should have won it during his career.

“It’s difficult to understand how Samuel Eto’o never won the Ballon d’Or with the impressive career he had,” he said in an interview with Cameroon Radio. “Samuel played for the best teams in the best leagues in the world. He scored an incredible amount of goals and was successful in different leagues.

“He played three Champions League finals, winning two with Barcelona and scoring in both finals. He also won one Champions League at Inter Milan and won many league titles.”

Mourinho continued: “He was the best striker in the world for several years and I think he deserved a Ballon d’Or but these are things out of our control.”

The Portuguese coach was full of praise for Eto’o, who announced his retirement in 2019 following spells at Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Everton, to name a few.

“Samuel’s career was very impressive and he was one of the best strikers in the world for many years,” Mourinho said.

“He’s an absolutely fantastic player and the most important thing for a footballer is his contribution to his team for victories. Samuel was a great individual player but was always a team player.

“He was always giving everything he could for his team to be successful. He is a trophy winner. He won all the important competitions and he had a very phenomenal career.

“He was almost an unstoppable player but his qualities as a man at some point became more important. He was a good colleague and he could do all for his team to win games.”

Mourinho added: “These are great human qualities and I have no doubts Eto’o will be successful after retirement.”

Eto’o is currently the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation but was recently handed a six-month ban from attending any international matches involving the country by a FIFA disciplinary panel.

The 61-year-old ventured to Turkey after managing the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

Mourinho has yet to oversee a national team during his legendary managerial career.

But he has had plenty of offers to take charge of a national team.

The Portuguese boss told Rio Ferdinand that he rejected offers from Portugal and England.

Speaking on Ferdinand’s podcast, Mourinho said: “I refused great working opportunities. The first one was even very hard to refuse because it was Portugal. I could be their coach in the national team.

“Also yours,” he added, to which the Ferdinand replied: “No way!”

Referring to a contract, he continued: “Yeah. I had it there, on the table.

“I’m still there a little bit. It was in 07-08 when Mr Capello got the job.

“I didn’t (sign) because the national team job is something that I wouldn’t enjoy.”

Mourinho, who once dubbed himself the ‘Special One’, previously revealed that his wife intervened amid England’s approach.

“My wife told me not to take it and she was right,” he told The Guardian. “Lampard, Terry, Joe Cole, everybody, was saying, ‘Come, come, come’. My players said, ‘The guys from Manchester United and Liverpool call us and say to us: Tell your boss to come’. I had lots of positive things to push me.

“I cannot wait two years for a big competition. I cannot be spending two years playing against Kazakhstan and San Marino.”

If Mourinho decides to leave Fenerbahce in 2026 when his contract expires, he could be tempted to take a national team position before potentially retiring from management.
