Anthony Gordon left the pitch with a bloody nose as Newcastle United clinched a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old scored his fifth goal of the campaign to pull the Magpies level at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium immediately after Dominic Solanke headed the hosts in front just three minutes in.
After Joelinton was let off with a handball when closing down Lucas Bergvall, Bruno Guimaraes picked up the loose ball and slipped in Gordon, who made no mistake with a cool finish into the bottom right corner.

Gordon had another opportunity in a similar position. Debutant goalkeeper Brandon Austin was equal to the effort but couldn’t deny Alexander Isak for a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute.
In a second-half where Spurs had the majority of possession, Gordon blazed over a decent opportunity to make it 3-1 before later taking a heavy blow to the face.
Dejan Kulusevski’s shoulder smacked Gordon in the face when he tried to cut inside of the Spurs attacker. While Newcastle appealed for a penalty, the winger received treatment.
It led to fears the England international, despite initially continuing, had sustained a broken nose after being replaced by Harvey Barnes in the 78th minute but Howe has revealed it was only a cut.
United’s head coach said: “I think it was just a cut. It was a nasty one, and he had blood all over him, so he did well to get back onto the pitch. Hopefully, it was nothing more than that though.”
Gordon is expected to be available for the first leg of Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup semi-final away to Arsenal on Tuesday.
