Aston Villa could be set to welcome two new recruits to the club this January
Aston Villa look to be upping their efforts to complete their first two signings of the January transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen and Celtic Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza both emerging as key priorities.
Fresh reports from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claim that Villa’s pursuit of Mingueza is well under way, and that Unai Emery and club director Monchi are leading the drive to sign the in-demand Spain international.
Mingueza’s current contract contains a buy-out clause understood to be in the region of £14m, and 50% of this fee is set to go to his former club Barcelona, who sold the 25-year-old to the Galician side back in the summer of 2022.
Meanwhile, the Villans saw their initial bid for Mallen knocked back, with Dortmund said to be looking for more than the £15m they were offered. Since then, reports have emerged suggesting Villa have already agreed personal terms with the Netherlands international, and now need only to meet the Bundesliga club’s asking price to get a deal over the line.
How much will Malen’s transfer fee be?
Fresh reports from German outlet Bild claim that Villa have slightly upped their offer, but BVB are still holding out for a fee in the region of £25m to part company with the 25-year-old, whose contract with the club currently runs until 2026.
The report suggests that Villa are set to make a ‘big breakthrough’ relatively soon, and that there is a push between both parties to get the deal done.

Villa are estimated to have spent over £135m on new signings so far this season, with all their new players arriving in last summer’s transfer window.
Highlight’s of the Villans’ mighty spending spree include the impressive £50m capture of Amadou Onana from Everton, Ian Maatsen’s big-money move from Premier League rivals Chelsea, and £5m swoop for Ross Barkley, which is proving to be a bargain bit of business.
In terms of sales, Villa recouped the vast majority of what they spent, with the big-money sales of Moussa Diaby to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad and midfielder Douglas Luiz’s move to Juventus ensuring the club were able to balance the books.
BirminghamWorld understands that Unai Emery its prioritising the strengthening of the right side of his defence this month, after failing to complete a deal for Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida, now of RB Leipzig, last summer.
Villa have also been linked with a move for Flamengo defender wing-back Wesley, who is also thought to be of interest to both Brighton and Wolves. Reports from Brazil claimed Villa had already seen bid worth around £12m knocked back, amid strong interest from a number of clubs in Italy’s Serie A.
