Newcastle United Fined £800,000 for Breaching Premier League Rule
Newcastle United has been fined approximately £800,000 for breaching Premier League Rule L.33 nine times during the 2024/2025 season. The Magpies have accepted the charges and reached a sanction agreement with the Premier League.
Rule Breaches
The breaches occurred in the following matches ¹:
– Southampton (h): 2 minutes 10 seconds delay to second-half, £40,000 fine
– Tottenham (h): 1 minute 38 seconds delay to kick-off, £60,000 fine
– Nottingham Forest (h): 1 minute 59 seconds delay to second-half, £80,000 fine
– Crystal Palace (a): 1 minute 29 seconds delay to second-half, £100,000 fine
– Manchester United (a): 1 minute 18 seconds delay to kick-off and 2 minutes 24 seconds delay to second-half, £125,000 fine
– Aston Villa (h): 2 minutes 9 seconds delay to second-half, £125,000 fine
– West Ham (a): 2 minutes 22 seconds delay to second-half, £150,000 fine
– Ipswich (h): 2 minutes 22 seconds delay to second-half, £210,000 fine
– Manchester City (a): 1 minute 42 seconds delay to second-half, £190,000 fine
Premier League Statement
“The Premier League and Newcastle United have entered into a sanction agreement after the club accepted it had breached Premier League Rule L.33 in relation to kick-off and re-start obligations. Rules relating to kick-offs and re-starts help ensure the organization of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard of the competition and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs,” a Premier League spokesperson said ¹.
Additional Charges
Newcastle United still faces a separate issue with 130 Financial Fair Play charges pending. Club bosses vehemently deny the charges, with the case still looming ².
