Danny Rohl has already discussed terms with Rangers over the vacant manager’s job, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs. That said, he’s not the only man under consideration.

The Ibrox club have had to deal with the blow of seeing former boss Steven Gerrard rule himself out of the running recently, but are now in the process of weighing up a number of different options. GIVEMESPORT understands that a new list has been made up, although some notable touted names have been left out.

Rohl Has Held Rangers Talks

As mentioned before, German football coach Rohl, who was most recently the manager of Sheffield Wednesday and has been described as ‘brilliant’, is on the list. He appears to be a strong contender, having discussed terms with the club last week.

GIVEMESPORT understands that he’s not the only candidate, though, with Kevin Muscat believed to have made the new list. Beyond that, Derek McInnes appreciated, but Hearts will fight to keep the 54-year-old on board. Former Premier League manager Slaven Bilic has also been discussed, but it’s currently unclear if any direct approach will be made

There are some managers who can be ruled out at this stage. Indeed, Graham Potter is not on the list following his recent sacking at West Ham. Gary O’Neil and Michael Carrick are also not being considered despite links in the media.

It is believed Rangers need days, not hours to pick a new candidate.

Barry Bannan Praises Rohl

Former Scotland midfielder Barry Bannan was Rohl’s captain at Wednesday and has given a glowing report of his past boss, calling him ‘brilliant’ to work with. The self-confessed Celtic fan told BBC Scotland:

“Knowing the manager’s character and looking at that Rangers team, there’d be an upturn in results if Danny did get the job,” he said.

Bannan also noted: “Danny was really good, he had a winning mindset from his first meeting. He was a young manager so the boys were intrigued to see how he would go about it, but we all left that meeting knowing we had a top, top manager on our hands. He was only young but he came across as highly confident.”

Speaking specifically about the unhappiness among Rangers fans right now, Bannan suggested that his former coach could handle the pressure, adding: “He is very passionate. He took to Sheffield Wednesday and the fans took to him right away because of the passion he showed.

“I know he is up for a battle – he came to us when we were rock bottom and looked likely to be relegated but we stayed up that year and kicked on.

“A lot of people seem to forget he worked at a massive club in Bayern Munich. I know he was assistant there but he would have got a taste of something similar to the Old Firm teams, because it’s all about winning games.”
