Mateo Joseph Leeds latest – new ‘enquiry’, ‘rejected’ bid and transfer stance

After just two years, it appears Mateo Joseph’s time at Leeds United could be coming to an end.
The forward asked to leave the club this summer, but LeedsLive understands this will only happen if the right offer comes in. The 21-year-old has admirers in Spain and also in Strasbourg, France.

Having told manager Daniel Farke he didn’t feel in the right mindset to travel with the club on a tour of Germany, Joseph has been training back at Thorp Arch individually and will also train with the Under-21s.

“It was actually the plan to have him here in Germany,” Farke revealed. “He mentioned that he didn’t feel ready for the trip to Stockholm to play Man United. And I accept this because he started a bit later with the training. I think that was also understandable. But then the day after, we expect him to be with us here in Germany.
“He said he doesn’t feel ready due to the situation to travel and to train and to play the friendlies in Germany, and this is not the situation I like. I have also spoken open and honest with him about the situation and have strongly recommended to say until situation is sorted, I would strongly recommend to do the job and to be professional. But he said [he’s] not in the mental state in order to do this.”
As he awaits an outcome on his future, LeedsLive takes a look at the latest headlines surrounding the young forward this summer.

Price tag and Getafe interest
According to reports in Spain, Getafe are the latest club to show interest in Joseph and have backed it up with an offer.
However, reports in the Spanish press indicate that Getafe are unwilling to meet the €14 million (£12m) valuation set by Leeds for the forward.

New Spanish club joins race
Spanish outlet L’Esportiu claims Girona have enquired about Joseph’s availability and are keen to sign the youngster on loan with an option to buy.
However, Leeds’ reported £12m valuation is said to have put a deal out of reach for the Spanish club.
The report goes on to state that Leeds are reportedly only willing to let Joseph leave on a straight loan or through a permanent transfer.
Rejected loan offer
It emerged last week that the Whites recently rejected a loan offer from Real Betis for Joseph. The La Liga side previously saw a bid of around £10m rebuffed for the player back in January.
What Farke has said
“He came to me, and to us, and said he wants a new challenge and would like to have a move,” the Whites boss previously revealed.
“He has also hinted he prefers a move to Spain due to his Spanish roots and, yes, that was more or less his call.
“We just want players who are excited about the project to play with Leeds United in the best league in the world, here in the Premier League, who want to be here with us and want to be successful with us.
“If this is your wish, I, as a manager, won’t stand in the way and (I) accept this because I just want players who want to be here and are buzzing. I’ve said, ‘Okay, Mateo, I accept this, I won’t stand in the way’.
“On the other hand, it’s also clear we, as a club, have invested a lot in him: time, money, backing and he is on the long-term contract and we value him. One thing is also for sure, we will just make a move possible once there is a club who meets the expectations of the club.”
Contract details
The 21-year-old still has three years left to run on his contract at Elland Road. Joseph arrived at Leeds from Espanyol in 2022.
