Here’s our initial reaction to a huge win for Newcastle United.

FULL-TIME: Everton 1-4 Newcastle

Newcastle finally win a Premier League game away from home this season and they’ve done it in some style. They absolutely battered Everton from pillar to post and made their first visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium a memorable one. A brace from Malick Thiaw and goals from Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade sealed a memorable win which should come as a huge source of relief for Magpies head coach Eddie Howe.

Triple change for Newcastle

Lewis Hall, Bruno Guimaraes and Nick Woltemade have been replaced by Fabian Schar, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon – who gets a frosty reception from the Everton fans who are still inside the stadium and there aren’t many.

Another Everton change

Beto replaces Thierno Barry up front for the hosts.

Double Everton change

Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish are replaced by Dwight McNeil and Tyler Dibling.

Newcastle should have a fifth goal

An incisive break away almost led to another goal. Nick Woltemade’s clipped pass in behind saw Joe Willock drive towards the Everton goal, he slipped in Jacob Ramsey but his effort was smothered by Jordan Pickford.

Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes are replaced by Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey.

GOAL! Everton 1-4 Newcastle

Everton pull a goal back from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. James Tarkowski’s long ball found him in between Thiaw and Livramento and he controlled the ball excellently before rolling it beyond Aaron Ramsdale.

Thierno Barry controlled a cross with his hand before firing the ball beyond Aaron Ramsdale. VAR intervenes and rules the goal out.

Thiaw at the double

Incredible. Nick Woltemade saw an initial effort blocked on the line but Harvey Barnes recycled the ball, found Lewis Hall and his delicious cross was headed hom by Thiaw. Newcastle are in dreamland.

Big save from Pickford

Lewis Hall’s long ball evaded Jake O’Brien and set Harvey Barnes through on goal but his effort was saved well by Pickford at point blank range.

Everton hit the crossbar

Ramsdale had to beat away a James Garner corner and the ball fell to Charly Alcaraz who absolutely rocketed a half volley off the crossbar. He certainly caught hold of that one.

A first opening for Everton in the second half but Iliman Ndiaye’s left-footed effort was straight down the throat of Aaron Ramsdale.

Newcastle could not have dreamed of a better situation to be in. Can they add some gloss to the scoreline with a goal on the counter?

Lewis Miley kicks things off as Newcastle look to seal their first away win of the season.

What an incredible half from Newcastle who are 3-0 up and good value for it. A run of nine Premier League away games without a win is now just 45 minutes away from ending. Everton fans booed their players off at half time.

Incredible finish

A hopeful ball was not given up on by Anthony Elanga who beat Iroegbunam to the ball and played the ball into the path of Nick Woltemade who controlled the ball well and lobbed it over a desparing Jordan Pickford to make it 3-0 to Newcastle.

Important moments

As great as this scoreline is Newcastle don’t want to give Everton an inch here. Because 2-1 is a dangerous score.

The game has settled down a bit

The game has settled down a bit with neither side creating many chances in the last 10 minutes. This is an important period for Newcastle to ride out. If they can get into half-time 2-0 ahead, it is a big mountain for Everton to climb.

Lewis Hall hits the bar

It is all Newcastle and the Everton crowd are getting restless. Lewis Hall’s shot deflected off Michael Keane and looped over Jordan Pickford and hit the crossbar. Newcastle fans are chanting: ‘Cheer up Jordan Pickford’ and ‘how s*** must you be, we’re winning away’.

A scrappy goal but Newcastle will take it. Some good work from Anthony Elanga initially saw his cross cleared. The ball fell into Tino Livramento’s path, he found Harvey Barnes whose low cross was cleared back to Livramento. His shot was well of target but was recycled by Dan Burn who diverted the ball into Lewis Miley and his left-footed shot somehow squirmed through Jordan Pickford. Newcastle 2-0 up and good value for the lead.

Joelinton back on

After receiving some instructions on the touchline from Eddie Howe, Joelinton is back on the pitch. Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey were all sent to warm up but Joelinton looks OK to continue for now.

So far so good?

It’s just coming up to the mid-way point in the first half and Newcastle will be pretty chuffed with things so far. That said Everton have been knocking on the door and are slowly starting to ask questions.

Joelinton down

The Newcastle midfielder is down and receiving treatment with an injury that isn’t immediately clear when it happened. The Brazilian is getting his leg stretched out but looks in a bit of discomfort.

Newcastle living dangerously

Grealish was at the heart of it again and his clever reverse pass set Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall into space in the penalty area but his cut back was cut out by Dan Burn. Newcastle then managed to deal with the resulting corner.
