The Athletic: English Duo Could Leave Newcastle After Transfer Window Closes

Newcastle United could still let Harrison Ashby and Jamaal Lascelles leave the club, despite the English transfer window being closed, according to a report from The Athletic.
It was a frantic end to the summer transfer window for the Magpies, finally allowing Alexander Isak to leave the club, with the Swedish striker joining Liverpool late on. Newcastle sourced a replacement, with Nick Woltemade arriving last weekend, before finalising a deal to bring Yoane Wissa to St James’ Park from Brentford on deadline day.
Although the English transfer window has now slammed shut, we could see clubs in the Premier League offload some of their deadwood in the coming days. Some transfer windows remain open, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, so there’s a chance players still head through the exit door, despite the issue of clubs like Newcastle being unable to bring in replacements.

According to a report from The Athletic, Newcastle could still sell English duo Ashby and Lascelles after the summer transfer window has closed. All of Newcastle’s incoming business has been complete, unless they decide to bring in some free-agents, but they failed to offload Ashby and Lascelles before the window slammed shut.
The Athletic also go through the transfer windows that remain open. The Dutch window doesn’t close until 11:59pm on Tuesday evening, while Turkish and Mexican clubs have until Friday to bring in new additions. Clubs in Portugal have even longer, with their deadline being on September 15th, while Saudi Arabia can make new signings until September 23rd.
There are still plenty of opportunities for clubs in England to sell some of their stars who they no longer want, and Ashby and Lascelles could be heading through the exit door for the Magpies.
The aforementioned duo are yet to play a single minute for Newcastle in the Premier League, so it’s no surprise that they want to cash in, particularly on Lascelles who is now 31 years old. Ashby is more of an interesting one considering he’s still only 23, so a loan departure might suffice if they attract any interest.
Not being able to bring in replacements for Ashby and Lascelles is unlikely to be much of an issue to Howe’s side, considering their lack of game time for the first team over recent years.
