Wayne Rooney says Everton once signed a player on a free transfer who he loved as much as Duncan Ferguson

Everton were unable to get back to winning ways on the weekend against Ipswich Town.
The game was Everton’s penultimate visit to Goodison Park before the finale against Southampton later in the month.
David Moyes will have been frustrated to see his side concede another two-goal lead on home soil.
It is believed Everton have some exciting plans for Goodison Park’s Finale with the Old Lady set to be departed in style.
Club legends could potentially make an appearance as their efforts in creating the stadium’s history should be recognised.
One of those could well be Duncan Ferguson who proved to be one of the great Everton strikers.
However, Wayne Rooney has said there is another former Toffee who he admired just as much as Big Dunc whilst he was growing up on Merseyside.

In the past, Rooney has shared his admiration for Ferguson having idolised the Scottish striker as a youth player.
But he is just one of the many greats which have worn the Everton shirt over the years.
Speaking on The Overlap, Rooney has now admitted he absolutely loved watching Paul Gascoigne play.
“I used to love Duncan Ferguson and Alan Shearer. I used to look at them two really,” he said.
“I think Paul Gascoigne as well. I know he’s not a forward but as my game developed I changed my game to become a number 10.”
Whilst he was playing for the Blues, Rooney thought Thomas Gravesen was the best Everton player he ever lined up alongside.
But it is clear to see shades of Gascoigne in Rooney with the England legends both marking their name in the history books.

Having signed on a free transfer, Gascoigne played just under two years at Goodison Park before moving on to join Burnley.
It would be fair to say Rooney probably enjoyed the earlier spell of Gascoigne’s career when he was playing for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
However, Rooney will have been around the club during the same time Gazza was playing for the first team.
