Everton sign Spain Under-23 winger Ornella Vignola from Granada –
Everton have completed the signing of Spain Under-23 winger Ornella Vignola from Liga F side Granada, marking their second acquisition of the summer window under manager Brian Sorensen.
The 20-year-old joins the Women’s Super League club after an impressive international spell, having scored four goals in her last three appearances for Spain’s U23s.
She follows Dutch midfielder Rosa van Gool to Merseyside this summer, while team-mates Kelly Gago, Aurora Galli and Lucy Hope have also committed their futures to the club with new contracts.
“I am very happy to join Everton,” said Vignola.
“I am really looking forward to getting to know the team and the fans, and to play and contribute as much as I can.”
Originally from Montevideo, Uruguay, Vignola began her career at Barcelona and featured in the UEFA Women’s Champions League during the 2021/22 season.
She has already won the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship and the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
She lifted the latter trophy alongside Inma Gabarro, who now plays for Everton.
“I spoke to Inma, Toni [Payne] and Martina [Fernandez]. All three of them agreed Everton is an incredible club,” she said.
“Having former team-mates who are here can help me with the language and settling in. I’m really looking forward to seeing them again and sharing a dressing room with them once more.”
She also spoke highly of the opportunity to work with Sorensen and the chance to play at Goodison Park, where Everton Women will host matches this season.
“It is something that makes me very excited. It is an incredible opportunity due to the visibility this can give us,” Vignola added.
“I know it’s a very historic stadium and I am really looking forward to playing there for the first time.”
Sorensen praised the winger’s ability and character, expressing confidence in her impact on the team.
“Ornella is a really promising talent who has shown her capabilities in big games,” said the Everton boss.
“She is one of the most exciting upcoming players and is crucial to my plans for next season. She is a direct forward, who is not afraid to take her marker on and is a joy to watch when in full flow.”
He also noted her familiarity with several squad members, saying: “She already has a good relationship with Toni and Inma, and I was very impressed when I met her. Her humble personality will make her a popular member of the squad.”
